Paid Leave of Absence – Career Librarian

The provisions of Article 16.8 of the RFA collective agreement govern Librarian paid leaves

Eligibility:

●Only career Librarians with a minimum of six years’ service may apply.

●Librarians are eligible for a maximum of six months’ paid leave at 100% within a five year period.

●Librarians are eligible for a maximum of 12 months’ paid leave at 85% within a seven year period.

Application Submission Date:

●Application Form must be submitted to the Chief Librarian six months prior to the start date of the planned leave.

Librarians may engage in outside employment while on paid leave only to the extent that such employment does not interfere with the Librarian’s leave obligations to the University.

5.Attach a full description of the project and activities to be undertaken while on paid leave, ensuring it addresses the following:

  • Summarize expected concrete outcomes of the leave, including a description of material expected to be produced, or work or study to be completed.
  • Describe relevance of the leave to your professional development.
  • Describe relevance of the leave project to the Library, students, and the University and how the outcome(s) will be shared with the Library and/or your unit.
  • Indicate whether the leave will be spent in Canada or another country.
  • Provide a work schedule (indicate time periods and location for each segment of project, if applicable).
  • Provide the name and location of institution/employer with which you will be affiliated, and copy of letters of acceptance from them (if applicable).
  • If you have previously received a Ryerson University paid leave, attach a copy of your last paid leave report.
