Summary The Health Services Coordinator will oversee the delivery of health services and support the health component to insure compliance with all applicable regulations pertaining to health and wellness of children and families enrolled in the Head Start program. The Health Services Coordinator must act in accordance with OFB's mission and abide by its standard of conduct. It is required that this individual work cooperatively with as a team member and communicate effectively with others. The Health Services Coordinator must be able to work with persons of varying socio-economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Follow the established health procedures as stated in the Head Start Performance Standards, OCFS Day Care Licensing, and Health Component Plan. (RN will perform duties as Health Care Consultant as required by OCFS Day Care licensing)

Travel on a regularly scheduled basis to each center to perform all required duties including observing health practices and to provide feedback to the classroom staff and Family Advocates.

Provide the following screenings: Height/weight, vision screening, color perception, and audiological screenings to insure all required screenings are performed within the first 45 days of a child's enrollment

Ensure timely audiological screenings.

Work in collaboration with Family Advocates and parents to obtain needed physical and dental exams, facilitate needed health care, referrals and dental treatment.

Review and maintain children's health files to ensure completion of immunizations and screenings, track needs for follow up health or dental care, insure physical and dental exams are current to within 1 year.

Maintain health files for completion of all documentation for follow up of health and dental needs, documentation of allergy with type of reaction and current medications.

Meet with administrative staff on a regular basis in order to foster communication and team work.

Assist with orientation of new staff in the health component.

Insure compliance with OCFS regulations and procedures regarding lead testing and parent education.

Complete Medical Administration Training (MAT) as required by OCFS Day Care Licensing to receive medications from parents as needed, work with parents and physicians to obtain medication orders and consents, and administer medications as needed.

Reviews physical and Dental forms and enters required data into COPA.

Keep first aid supplies at all centers stocked to maintain compliance with OCFS Day Care regulations.

Provide approved health education and resources to children, parents, and staff.

Make home visits as necessary.

Follow up on health problems occurring at the centers.

Provide approved monthly health education in every classroom.

Share relevant information about the child and family while maintaining confidentiality.

Work with Family Advocate’s, CD's, dental providers to schedule center visits to provide oral exams and classroom teaching.

Assist in planning and presenting health and dental workshops for Head Start children, families, and staff.

Serves as a facilitator of the Health/Nutrition Advisory Committee held twice a year.

Attend meetings and training as needed.

Submit monthly report to Head Start Director documenting classroom educational activities, health data and concerns.

Coordinate Health areas of Self-Assessment and Community Assessment.

Prepare Program Plan updates for all assigned areas, and complete reports as needed including the NYS Immunization Survey, Quarterly Outcome Reports and PIR.

Monitors staff certification in CPR, First Aid and Medication Administration (MAT) in accordance with regulations. Arrange for or facilitates training as needed.

Ensure completion of all required Health/Dental screenings within Head Start time frames; Height/Weight, Vision and Color perception, Audio logical, Physicals, and Dentals.

Work with local agencies to obtain test results (i.e. lead, hemoglobin, etc...)

Coordinate and monitor staff to ensure MAT training is complete as required as required by OCFS Day Care Licensing.

Coordinate with Dental Providers to ensure that services are provided for children and families in an efficient, safe and timely manner.

Education and/or Experience

RN with a current NYS License, preferably with pediatric, school nurse, or public health experience and 1 year supervisory experience. Willing to obtain First Aid/CPR Trainer Certification.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
