Human Resources Quarterly Report
Meghan Manor, Judy Sackett
The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Salary Survey was submitted in September. As part of the survey, library faculty members were requested to verify their ethnicity according to new ARL directions/choices.
In order to update our records, support staff members were requested to provide an update on their degrees or college credits earned since beginning work with the Libraries. Staff education and work experience are being added to a central UK database and we wanted to ensure our information was current and accurate.
The Promotion /Tenure and Contract Renewal dossiers were set up for this year’s candidates. Then, due to the change in the checklists for the files, new dividers were created for each of the thirteen dossiers.

FY 09 Budget:
The final fund balance has been released by the Provost Office. The UK libraries will receive $883K in rollover funds to this fiscal year. The balance will be primarily distributed to operating expenses to offset the deficit generated in that area and library materials. Any remaining balance will go towards the future storage facility
Budget FY 10:
In addition to the $883K fund balance roll over from fiscal year 2009, the UK libraries will be getting additional funding. An additional $250K from the 2008-09 fiscal year roll-over balance will go towards a future storage facility. The libraries has already received the new recurring $1M in funding for library materials.
Faculty Vacation Access Database:
The faculty vacation balance database has been revised to reflect the SAP accounting rules. Theresa Yocum and Kelly Vickery worked very hard to make the database flow properly. The database takes out the oldest days first leaving the newest days (2009-10) in SAP if an employee retires or leaves. This makes it easier to do a payout for any vacation balance. The database will be the source for faculty vacation balances until 2010. At that point we will be transitioning to SAP as the information source for all faculty vacation balances.
Development:
The Phonathon was completed in September for the UK Libraries. The Phonathon was up over 8% this year and hit a new record of giving over $45,000. The Speaking Volumes newsletter was released in October as well.
Going Green:
The University continues to push for all employees to discontinue receiving their remuneration statement in paper form. The University currently has had almost 5,000 employees opt out of their paper statements. When this number reaches more than 50% of the employees, then we will no longer receive any paper remuneration statements. This will save the University thousands of dollars each fiscal year.
