CELEBRATE VISITATION

On Saturday, May 31, Toledo Associates gathered to celebrate their patronal feast of the Visitation. The evening began with Eucharist at the Provincial Center, followed by dinner with the Sisters and a presentation by KathiTaub, representing Heartbeat of Toledo. The Associates brought with them donations of baby items for Heartbeat’s programs.
Last fall the SND-USA Associate group decided to do a project for life to celebrate our Associate feastday. Each of the four provinces was to decide on a way this could be done in their locale. There were 24 Associates who participated in our celebration.
Our speaker, KathiTaub, is a nurse manager for Heartbeat. She and her husband have eight adult children and 22 grandchildren. Needless to say, they love children! Kathi was exuberant in her person and her presentation. The Sisters and Associates listened attentively and entered into her presentation with many questions of interest about her and her work. Heartbeat of Toledo has been able to help thousands of women who have faced unplanned pregnancies. Their services include free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and options counseling. Their goal is to turn a woman’s fear about her unplanned pregnancy into confidence. Kathi says that nearly 85 percent of the women who come for help ultimately choose life. They also offer information and support for those who wish to make an adoption plan. Volunteers and donations are important to Heartbeat’s vitality. It is entirely funded by donations. Last year alone the Heart to Heart program gave out about 50,000 diapers as well as thousands of other baby items including clothing, blankets, formula, pack and plays, car seats and more. Kathi was well received by Sisters and Associates. After the presentation many gathered around for informal questions and conversation. All of the information sheets and volunteer registration forms were gone by the end of the evening.
We are grateful for people like Kathi who devote their lives joyfully to saving life. Thanks, too, to the Associates who planned this evening, those who prepared the Liturgy and dinner, and all who participated in this wonderful occasion.
