Eden Runners – Road & Parkrun Championships 2017

There are 3 distinct series of races included. 10 will be at 10k, 6 will be Longer Distance (LD), with 10 in the Parkrun Series. You can run as many, or as few, as you wish. The more you run in, the more points you will obtain.

The Ladies’ and Men’s Championships are scored separately. So at the end of the series, there will (hopefully) be a Men’s Champion, and a Ladies Champion in each of the 3 sections

Points are scored as follows:

  • 5 points for completing the race.
  • 15 Points to anyone achieving a ‘personal best’ within the series at a particular distance. So for example, if you run the 2nd 10k race in the series faster than you ran the first 10k, you win an additional 15 points. If you do that again in the 3rd 10k in the series, there’s another 15 points. Similarly you could do the same with the Parkrun events, and with any 2 (or more) same –distance events in the LD series. Obviously you cannot win ‘pb’ points if you only compete in 1 race of each distance in the series.
  • Points according to your finishing place in the race, relative to other ERs. So for example, if there are 5 female Eden Runners in a race, the last ER finisher gets 10 points, next-to-last gets 11, etc etc. Same principle, obviously, for the men.

So to take an example, let’s look at Ivor the Improver. He turns up for the Long Marton 10k in deepest Westmorland, one Sunday afternoonin May. He is a fully paid up member of Eden Runners, and has remembered to bring his Famous Green & Blue ER vest. Some of his club team mates have turned up too, there are 8 blokes and 6 ladies. Ronnie has a dream of a race, and finishes impressively in 47.06, a good 53 seconds faster than the time he ran at the Resolution 10k back in January. He was 3rd male Eden Runner to finish. All of his team-mates manage to finish in one piece. Fortunately, he has brought a calculator to work out how many points he’s got from the race:

Completing the race – 5 points.

PB Points – 15 points

Place points – 15points. (6 male ER finishers – 10 points for 6th, 11 for 5th, 12 for 4th, ....13 for 3rd place, 14 for 2nd, 15 for 1st ER. So, Ivor gets 13 points for 3rd)

In total, Ivor goes home with 33 points from this race (5+13+15) - though he probably won’t know this until after the results are processed.

Some important points though:

  • Points awarded will be based on OFFICIAL RESULTS ONLY – it doesn’t matter what your own watch says.
  • Club vests MUST be worn. There are 2 reasons – most importantly, to advertise our Club, and then so that other ER competitors can more easily identify each other during the race itself.
  • Only fully paid-up members can take part in the Club Championships. Runners joining the Club part-way through a series will only be eligible in events taking place after their joining date.

Eden Runners Road Race Championships 2017

Where possible, we try to choose races which are organised locally, and which fall on dates which, by and large, avoid the obvious holiday weekends. This is in order to give as many of our members as possible the best chance to compete in as many events as they can. One or two are within a few days of each other, but they are generally among the shorter races, and hopefully this will not cause major problems. In any case, we are not advocating that everyone runs allthe events – the main purpose of this is to encourage participation along with some (hopefully) friendly competition.

And we are also aware that there will be some travelling involved. We can of course share vehicles, which not only cuts costs but helps to promote ‘team spirit’ amongst members. Some of the races are quite far afield, but all are within fairly easy reach of the determined traveller. Again, the more of us attend these events, the higher we can raise the profile of the club.

The Championship races will be listed and updated on the ER website & on Facebook. Points updates will be published as soon as possible after each race.

Some of these will be entry on the day only, but it is advisable to check and register early if you can, to avoid disappointment. We shall try to keep the website & Facebook pages updated with any changes, and of course please keep checking back for info on travel arrangements etc.
