Lesson Title: Developing Vocabulary
Suggested Grade Level: Kindergarten

Student Prior Knowledge:

Students will use prior knowledge of the alphabets to help learn vocabulary. Students will use prior knowledge of how to form sentences in order to use vocabulary properly when describing an object or event.

Estimated Lesson Time: 1 hour - 1 hour 20 minutes
Standards:
LA.K.1.6.1: The student will learn new words to add to their vocabulary.

Goal:

Students will repeat and recall vocabulary words presented to them by using the terms to describe a good citizen. By applying the vocabulary to describe how to be a good citizen, students will be able to demonstrate they grasp the meaning of the terms.

Learning Objective:

Students will be able to learn a maximum of ten vocabulary words. Students will be told each term, and asked their definition of the words. After receiving their definition, they will be given the facilitator’s definition of the terms. Students will recall terms taught, and use them to describe a good citizen. They will be able to decipher the way each term should be used properly in a sentence, in order to accurately complete the activity.

Resources: Smart board, Projector, Computer

Procedures:

I/Teacher show you/students on projector vocabulary. (15 minutes)

You/Students will give your definitions of vocabulary. (10 minutes)

I/Teacher will thoroughly explain to you/students the meaning of the terms. (10minutes)

I/Teacher will show you/students videos on the computer that will demonstrate the meaning of vocabulary. ( 15 minutes)

I/Teacher will use smart board to display terms and pictures, which you/students will come to smart board, and identify which word goes with each picture. (15 minutes)

I/Teacher will use smart board to display vocabulary ,sentences describing a good citizen, and you/students will fill place correct vocabulary in sentence. (15-20 minutes)

Assessment:
The students will be assessed based on their understanding of the terms. Students ability to use the terms correctly will show their level of comprehension.
