1. NAME OF EVENT: Show and Shine
2. SUMMARY: We put on an event at our local Fire Hall (which is new and spacious with great cooking facilities) on a Sunday morning (we cancel our service) that is free for everyone. Our church family cook and serve a great breakfast with pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and fruit platters. The whole idea behind this is just to build relationships and it is really neat to see the variety of people who come out to this and interact with one another. For instance one of the bikers took a senior lady from our church on a ride on his Harley and the whole place broke out in applause. People hang around and visit for 2 or 3 hours.
We do the Show and Shine part together with a local car and motorcycle enthusiast from the community who is not part of our church family. He helps promote the event by advertising it through his garage and by taking posters around with his biking buddies. We don't have any fees, judging or prizes for that part. Just an opportunity for people to look at and talk about the vehicles and bikes displayed.
We also hire a professional cartoonist who does free caricatures for people. They are very well received and he generally doesn't stop drawing for the entire 4 hours he is there.
This is all provided by the church and the only thing we do is agree togehter with the fellow who helps promote the event on a project that we give people an opportunity to give towards. Last year it was the Red Cross for the SlaveLake fire.
3. COST: We don't pay anything for the use of the facility and some of the food items are donated, but it cost around $1,000 last year.
4. SUGGEST CHANGES: We are trying to figure out a date that we can hold it on every year so people will know exactly when it is happening.
