Hall Sensor Test PlugInstructions
When to use the Hall Sensor Test Plug:
- The hall sensor test plug was developed to diagnose a vacuum with a false jam condition. It should be used if the direct air motor comes on for a second or two and then shuts off with no jam present.
- If the direct air motor doesn’t come on at all, or if the brushroll jam light comes on immediately, please consult the diagnostic flowchart for your model (available at and through your sales rep,) or call Tacony Technical Service at 800-643-7459.
Before usingthe test plug:
- Make sure machine is unplugged from the wall.
- Check that the belt and brushroll are installed and turning freely. If the belt and brushroll are not installed the jam function will activate every time.
- Check condition ofbelt. A loose or improperly installed belt will cause a false jam.
- Check direct air motor inlet and fan to ensure it is not clogged or obstructed.
- Check that the motor pulley is not loose and turning on the shaft.
Instructions:
- Unplug machine from the wall
- Remove nozzle cover of machine to expose hall sensor
- Locate the hall sensor assembly(the hall sensor assembly is the idler arm and pulley with the small black box attached that rides on the belt.) Follow the lead wire from the hall sensor to where it plugs in (the light board, the PC board or the main wire harness, depending on model.)
- Unplug the hall sensor lead wire and insert the test plug in its place.
- With the test plug inserted plug in machine and turn on both motors. *WARNING* Keep hands clear of moving parts.
- If the direct air motor continues to run with the test plug inserted the hall sensor should be replaced.
- If the jam condition continues and the jam light comes on, the main PC board should be replaced.Note: Before replacing PCB, ensure that the proper tap voltage (14-18 volts AC) is being supplied by clean air motor. If voltage is outside range replace clean air motor.
- ALWAYS BE SURE TO REMOVE TEST PLUG AFTER TESTING. If the plug is not removed the jam protection feature will not work.
