DoH issues new guidance on NHS Chaplaincy services
Page 6 clearly states the legal position concerning their access to patient identifiable information. There is still the ability to comment on the document before its final version is published and all responses should be made directly to the Department of Health.

Human Rights Seminars
The Lord Chancellor's Department has been holding Human Rights training seminars for public sector workers since the end of 2002. Further dates have now been added to this programme in the following locations: Brighton 25th July, Canterbury 9th September, Daventry 17th October. An agenda and booking details are available from the LCD's website. A Human Rights study guide is also available from this site.

We had eleven excellent submissions from organisations offering to assist us with piloting the Primary Care Cancer dataset and we have now selected six to participate with piloting for six month period from 1st October 03 to 31st March 04.

Confidentiality counts
The NHS Strategic Tracing Service (NSTS) currently allows bulk verification of patient registers through batch tracing submitted via various media. The objective of a new Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) service, to be introduced across the NHS by the NHS IA in the near future, is to enable the transfer of confidential data via secure e-mail for the first time.
