DurationThis is a full-time permanent position,

current funding for the post ends 30th April 2013

Purpose

The Penhill Community Worker, managed by CLIP, will help the local Fair Share Panel to meet its priorities for action. The main purpose will be to support projects that enable local people, through community and voluntary organisations to work together to take a lead in the development and renewal of Penhill.

Main tasks

The Community Worker will:

  • Work with CLIP Management Committee and Penhill Forum to diagnose, support and signpost Community & Voluntary groups to enable them to continue to develop and strengthen their governance and activities.
  • Recruit signpost and support new and existing volunteers to local groups and raise awareness about the assets that volunteers bring to any project.
  • Support peoples and groups to access resources and advice to build independent, effective groups and to identify and create new initiatives.
  • Assist local people and groups to identify training needs and signpost them to training opportunities.
  • Support local people to present the most positive image of their community. As per the Community plan priority ‘Stigma’.
  • Encourage and signpost local groups to draw other resources into the area, especially funding and seek funding to sustain this post .
  • Help and encourage local people to identify and join wider networks to enable them influence views and services from other agencies.
  • As per the Community Plan Priority No 1, ensure that children and young people are consulted about, and where possible, involved in the planning and development of any provision for them.
  • Report regularly to the CLIP Management Committee, Fair Share Panel and Penhill Forum.

Person Specification

The person appointed will ;

  • Have significant experience of community development work.
  • Have a community work qualification
  • Experience of partnership and multi-agency working.
  • Be able to communicate well with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Be able to support groups with their development, particularly management, planning and fundraising.
  • Understand social inclusion and diversity issues.
  • Be able to work with minimum supervision and manage time efficiently.
  • Be able to self-support, e.g. computer literate.
  • Have independent means of travel
  • Be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Be committed to self-development through training.
