Topic/Unit 1 Time Frame: 3 Weeks

Badminton

Students will be introduced to the history, rules of play and fundamental skills associated with the game of badminton. In addition to individual skills, the students will be instructed and expected to demonstrate safety procedures and positive behaviors that promote good sportsmanship and social development.

Table Tennis

Bowling

Students will be introduced to the history, rules of the game and scoring practices associated with the game of bowling. The students will demonstrate competency in the skills needed to be successful. Teaching strategies will target the student’s stance, approach, aim and release. Finally, the students will be instructed and expected to demonstrate safety procedures and positive behaviors that promote good sportsmanship and social development.

Archery

Students will be introduced to the history, etiquette, and types of equipment associated with archery. The students will demonstrate proper use and care of equipment. Safety expectations will be clearly identified and emphasized to ensure a secure environment. The students will demonstrate positive behavior, which will promote good sportsmanship.

Aquatics

Students will experience a variety of activities above and below the water. Students will demonstrate proper understanding of safety rules, equipment care and personal physical development as it relates to water activities.

Weight Training

Students will participate in a weight training program. The students will apply biomechanical and physiological principals related to exercise and training. Students will be able to explain the benefits of weight training as it relates to a healthy lifestyle and positive self-image. Finally, the students will demonstrate proper safety techniques and behaviors that promote a positive environment.

Track and Field

Students will be introduced to both running and field events. With each event, students will identify proper training techniques associated with successful performance. Cardiovascular principles will be emphasized to increase each individual’s level of fitness. Students will demonstrate proper stretching, warm up and cool down activities to prevent injuries. Each student will exhibit behavior that will promote a safe and positive environment.

Golf

Students will be introduced to the history, etiquette and protocol of golf. Students will be taught proper techniques associated with grip, stance, swing and follow through. In addition, students will be expected to demonstrate proper care of equipment and safety procedures.
