Land Use/Local Government Working Group: summary of top priorities
Working group lead, Leonard Bauer
· Conservation Opportunity Framework
Update and introduction of a new fact sheet, designed for high level messages and guidance about the practical use of the Framework.
· Promoting Biodiversity Conservation in Local Planning
David Stokes, co-author of a study published in the journal Conservation Biology, will share key findings with the Council.
· North Central Washington Regional Pilot – Early Action Project
Nancy Warner, project lead, will share progress on setting up a regional biodiversity council and working with local land use planners to apply the Conservation Opportunity Framework in their work.

Education and Outreach Working Group: summary of top priorities
Working group lead, Ikuno Masterson
· Talking to the public about biodiversity and it’s importance
Paul Bergman, Communications Director, Puget Sound Partnership, will present results of recent polling about how Washingtonians rate the importance of environmental issues, and what it tells us about messaging.
· Developing a personalized message about biodiversity and the Council
Exercise to develop a personalized “elevator speech” about biodiversity; why it’s important, and what we are doing about it. Council members work in teams and share examples—cheat sheets provided!

Science Working Group: summary of top priorities
Working group lead, Rob Fimbel
1:20 / · Biodiversity Scorecard – progress report and draft indicators
Steven Walters and members of the Science Committee will share summary of progress to date, focusing on the results of a technical workshop held in February and the development of draft indicators.
2:00 / · Development of a Statewide Habitat Connectivity Plan, and the Western Governors Association (WGA) Initiative.
John Mankowski, Governor’s Natural Resource Policy Advisor, will introduce this topic and discuss options under consideration for the ongoing management of this initiative and the role of the Council.
Joanne Schuett-Hames and Kelly McAllister, co-leads for the Washington Wildlife Habitat Connectivity Working group, will share new developments in development of the analysis and maps, and will also highlight outreach plans.
