Project Read: Unit 13
Monday---Unit 13 Skill: Beginning Consonant Blends (sl, bl, fl, cl, gl, pl)
Students will understand a consonant blend is a consonant combination representing two combined consonant sounds.
Students will read words with beginning consonant blends.
Students will spell words with beginning consonant blends.
Display the following words lap and slap. Teacher tells students that the first word lap starts with one consonant and the second word starts with two consonants.
Students will study words that start with two consonants. Two consonants starting a word are called consonant blends. Consonant blends have two consonant sounds stirred together.
Teacher will model how to blend two sounds together by following teacher guidebook page 13-1. Teacher will model how to blend the following consonants together: (sl, bl, fl, cl, gl, pl). Students will practice along with the teacher.
Activities: Skywrite the letter names and say sounds.
Checking for understanding: Students will read words from the sl blend sheet page 13-13.

Monday---Unit 13A Lesson 2
Skill: they(red word)
Display the word they from the red word pack. Ask the students what kind of word is this?
Students will learn in this lesson a new red word and review all the red words already studied.
Teacher will tell the students this is the word they. They are a word that stands for the name of people, places or things.
Teacher will give examples: Tim and Ted have sleds. They have sleds. The dolls are in the box. They are in the box.
Students will read the word outloud. Tap the letter names out on arm. Trace over the word they three times on paper from page 13-27. Write the word they on paper three times.
Checking for Understanding: Teacher flashes red words from the red word pack.
Teacher read sentences and students fill in the missing red words. Students will complete page 13-29.
Jewel Box- Treasure Chest Student Practice Sheet page 13-31. Teacher and students will read aloud in class.
Guided Practice: 1. Teacher flashes (l) blends (sl, bl, fl, cl, gl, pl) and word cards on pages 13-13 through 13-23 getting students to automatic recall the words.
