Short Research Project #1 Standards: ELAGSE W2, W4, W7, W8, W9, L1, L2
DIRECTIONS
- Conduct research to gather and write down a minimum of 6 relevant facts about your chosen topic. Use at least 2 reliable online sources in your research (.org, .edu, some .com’s). Document (write down) the sources you use by writing down: website name, title of web page, date of access, web address.
- Use your facts as a starting point to help you develop an informative, research-based piece writing to formally report your findings. Use correct paragraph structure: topic sentence/main idea, details/elaboration, concluding sentence. During this project, assume that your audience has no prior knowledge of your topic.
- Consult and follow the guidelines on the rubric. Seek to meet/exceed standards!
Project Schedule
Monday--Aug. 17 / Introduction of project. Be sure to ask questions about parts you don’t understand!Thursday--Aug. 20 / Must have minimum of six facts ready on your desk at the beginning of class for teacher to check (formative grade). Begin or continue writing draft while teacher checks facts.
Friday--Aug. 21 / Peer review and editing session using “Written Conversations” strategy. You MUST have a complete rough draft for your peers to review and give feedback during group work. Your rough draft must be turned in with your final copy and it will be graded.
(It is impossible to have a FINAL COPY without first developing a DRAFT.)
Monday--Aug. 24 / Last day to ask questions/get clarification! Write (or type) final copy (classwork/homework).
Tuesday--Aug. 25 / Project Due at beginning of class! Your Short Research Report final copy must
