Community Fundraising Officer

One Year Fixed Term Contract

Location:Walton on Thames, office based with local travel

Salary:£25,000 per annumpro rata for three days per week plus pension contribution

Hours:21 hours per week

Holidays:20 days per annum plus Public Holidays pro rata

About Elmbridge Rentstart:

We are a local charity which aims to help single homeless people access suitable private rental accommodation. We work to find homes for our local homeless and provide support and advice to prevent homelessness. We are currently working in Elmbridge and Runnymede borough, giving support to around 420 people per year and housing 100 clients. Demand for our services is growing.

Purpose of post:

To spread awareness of our work amongst the local community with the direct result of raising money from community sources. Over the last year we have started to form links with a range of local groups, including companies, schools, churches and individuals. We have also set up a range of community events. Alongside the postholder we have two members of existing staff who can assist with speaking to community groups, the postholder will need to ensure excellent liaison with these two staff members.

This job is designed to take community involvement to a higher level and has five clear objectives:

  1. To actively approach and cultivate new community support from a wide range of local groups. This support must translate into fundraising income.
  2. To set up, manage and execute bespoke fundraising events to be held throughout the year, examples of types of events include a Ball, a carol service and an art show.
  3. To manage all volunteers who are engaged with our charity, ensuring that they are supported and feel appreciated for the volunteering they undertake.
  4. Public Relations – as part of this role you will need to take control of updating our social media accounts and ensure regular and relevant press releases are dispatched to local news sources.
  5. Supporter care – to ensure that all information is correctly and appropriately recorded on our database. This includes ensuring that all Gift Aid and Data protection rules are adhered to

Recruiting new volunteers / fundraising

To actively seek out community organisations and individuals to ask them to support the work of Elmbridge Rentstart. To meet with prospective volunteers, understand their interests and ensure that they are matched with a suitable volunteering / fundraising activity. To ensure that the community fundraising target of £60,000 per year is reached by the end of March 2019.

Running bespoke fundraising events

In addition to constant fundraising from community groups and collections the postholder will need to plan, manage and evaluate around 3 specific events per year. The events can change each year but would be likely to include a carol concert, a sleep out and an arts based event. The postholder would need to complete all event planning, budgeting and execution of these events, ensuring that all are profitable and maximise income to the charity.

Volunteer Management

To work with existing and new volunteers as the key point of contact. To ensure that all volunteers feel engaged with our work and are given a range of opportunities to support that best suit their needs.

Public Relations

Ensure that our Facebook and Twitter accounts are updated three times per week with relevant and engaging information. Extend the reach of both of these platforms and maximise our visibility. Amend our website as appropriate with any updates on community activity. Write regular press releases and distribute to all local news outlets. Develop relationships with key journalists in our area.

Supporter Care

To manage our supporter database and ensure that all volunteer and supporter details are kept up to date, donations are thanked and that Gift Aid and data protection are recorded correctly.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALITIES / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
EXPERIENCE / Extensive experience of networking and building excellent relationships with a particular focus on going out to source new contacts.
Experience of planning and executing successful fundraising events.
Experience of social media management.
Experience of working in a team. / Experience of public relations.
Experience of managing a supporter database.
SKILLS / Self-motivated to proactively devise ways to reach new community groups.
Excellent command of the English language and use of written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to present confidently and at the appropriate level to different interested groups.
Ability to manage volunteers.
Ability to work evening and weekends as required (with time off in lieu provided).
Excellent numeracy skills to manage budgets.
Excellent attention to detail.
Good working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel and email.
Ability to work in a busy and noisy small office.
Clean driving licence with own car (mileage allowance will be provided)
KNOWLEDGE & VALUES / Knowledge of fundraising regulations on data protection and Gift Aid. / Values diversity and difference.

QUALIFICATIONS: No formal qualifications are required for this role but a good standard of education is expected.

An enhanced DBS check will be required for all successful candidates.
