THE KU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Position Title: President & CEO
Reports to: KU Alumni Association Board of Directors
Position Summary:
Full-time professional staff position responsible for the direction of comprehensive self-governing alumni association to strengthen the relationship between alumni and the University of Kansas. Works closely with University leadership, the KU Athletics Department, and the KU Endowment Association to develop and execute programs consistent with the overall objectives of the University and the Alumni Association.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
· Maintains a comprehensive understanding of the mission of the Alumni Association as it relates to the educational, research, and service goals of the University with the ability to communicate the institution's needs and priorities--both internally and externally.
· Prioritizes strategic direction based on overall objectives of the University and the Alumni Association
· Manages the day-to-day operations of the Association, the Adams Alumni Center, and more than 40 employees.
· Executes the work of the Association as directed by the Board of Directors and prepares periodic written reports to document activities and accomplishments in relation to established goals and objectives.
· Leads efforts to cultivate and solicit private gifts in support of the Association and development of new revenue sources.
· Ensures effective stewardship/management of Association finances and resources with an objective toward long-term stability and growth
· Speaks very frequently to large groups of alumni and friends in a variety of venues about the Association and its importance to the University.
Minimum Qualifications:
Training and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree (KU degree highly preferred) and a minimum of 10 years of experience working with a university or other nonprofit organization preferred. Managerial experience also required.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Superior written and spoken English. Aptitude for public speaking. Neatness in appearance, maturity, cultural depth and breadth, discipline, creativity, initiative, and integrity.
Ability to independently initiate, organize and follow through with program plans. Intellectual capacity to remain informed about diverse programs within the University and the Association, and the organizational ability to participate in and coordinate a wide variety of alumni activities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both within and outside the Association.
Position requires extensive travel and willingness to work nights and weekends as required.
