Brief Description
(one or two sentences) / The nursing department lab is currently being utilized by multiple health programs i.e., RN, VN, CNA, and EMT. Additionally, in past semesters the current single skills lab has been used by other disciplines as a classroom impacting availability for health science students. The Nursing Department needs a short-term solution to this overflow problem.

Justification: Why should this be done?
(20 points) / Over the last four years the demand for nurses in the community has resulted in a doubling of students in the nursing program, 120 to 240 students. The program requires didactic instruction and a demanding psychomotor component. Students in all four semesters must practice nursing skills in the Skills Lab, demonstrate competence on essential skills and must meet clinical hours before performing on a live patient in the clinical setting. In order to meet the learning needs of these students increased availability of hours and consistent quality of instruction in the Nursing Skills Lab is essential for student success. .

Ensure Resources Are Conducive To Improving Student Learning While Promoting Program and Institutional Growth: Having an overflow skills lab will provide availability of instruction, accessibility to skill development and skill mastery in a safe setting.
Enhance Institutional Effectiveness: An overflow skills lab will provide students an increased opportunity to practice essential/core nursing skills for safe application in clinical settings.
