Session Three: Campaign planning Part One
Duration: 1 hour (& 10 mins lunch break)
Group Profile: 10 - 30 Young People – mixed genders
Aim: The group will develop a message for their campaign and start to devise tactics.
Delivery Strategy: We use kinesthetic, visual and audio activities.
2mins / Recap
Ask the group to give us a recap on what we have achieved so far / The group will have remembered at what point we left our work in the last session, and again be thinking about our chosen issue.
3mins / Slogans
Quiz activity use the PowerPoint.
The YP will need to work in teams to guess the slogan i.e.
The world's local bank – HSBC / The YP would have been thinking about the different tones certain slogans and campaigns carry. / PowerPoint
Facilitator to emphasize how catchy and to the point slogans are easily remembered.
10mins / The Evidence
Research time
With the newspapers and magazines that the YP should have brought in from last week as homework.
In pairs the YP will find examples of stories to use as case studies to help evidence our campaign. / The YP would have spent some time researching for more evidence to support our overall aim. / Facilitator to bring in extra newspapers and print off stories from the Internet.
6mins / Elevator Pitch
The group will start to formulate their own tones, and pin point how they would like to convey their overall message/aim. / The group would have created set elevator pitches for different audiences. / Flip chart paper and marker pens.
10mins / Allies-tree
In pairs the YP will create an Allies-Tree.
The group will then use these ‘trees’ to create a possible list of support for our campaign.
/ The YP would have created a list of all the people in the community that they think would support their campaign.

The group will split up and complete a task.
Task 1 – Write a letters to the local MP regarding the campaign.
Task 2 – Email/Phone charities and organization to see if they would like to support our campaign.
Task 3 – Createa following on social media. / In smaller groups the YP will discover numerous ways to reach their target decision makers, via media, online, and personal letters and calls.
The YP will see what interest and responses have come back to them in the 15 minutes allocated for this activity.
The group will also practice their elevator pitches in this task. / Laptop - Emails

10mins / Creating a Petition
Create a petition that will take place in the school break. The idea of the petition is for the YP to trail their elevator pitches and gather support from their peers. / An opportunity to practice their elevator pitches to a wider audience and gain some more active supporters for their campaign.
5mins / Review & Next week
Establish with the group whether the session’s aims have been met and outline plans for next session. / Recap against stated aims and future planning.
10mins / Petition
Gather signatures with the petition in school / Petition progress to be reviewed at start of next session. / Clip boards
