NEMO Annual meeting Amsterdam 2004

Report from Croatia

Collections mobility and networking web based cultural collections in Croatia

Our museums do not participate on some big projects of itinerant exhibitions or on mutual cultural projects on the international level. The reason for that is mostly the lack of money and the undeveloped technical basis.

Our Association has not yet resolved the problem of functioning as an autonomous civil association and our professional propositions are not always respected, so we are not able to collaborate with international partners and make some deeper analysis on that field. The sponsorship of culture is for the moment just impossible to get.

Most of our activities are on the field of education, so the Section for Education had many important international and national meetings concerning the role of the museums in every day school-life. They do make some good results directly at the schools and between the children coming to visit the museums. But the infrastructure for this work is still very low.

The web-based data are seriously in work and many museums made good standards and have a lot of substance applied in system.

The Croatian Museums Association

The HMD (CROATIAN MUSEUM ASSOCIATION) exists over 55 years.

As I have informed you before at NEMO-conference in 2003. we publish a periodical magazine MUSEUMS AND CONSERVATORS NEWS of Croatia (Vijesti muzealaca i konzervatora) - 1 to 4 numbers pro year. I was elected for the editor-in-chief on the beginning of 2003 after leaving the position of the president of HMD and under my leadership we have published 3 double or triple-issues of our magazine for the years 2002-2003.

As we have a very small budget from the State and City Zagreb the publications are printed in black & white technique (cover in colour). We put enormous effort to keep our magazine going on.

After the short period where the new elected president resigned his function, we made big efforts during one full year to re-establish the position of a new president and we resolved that problem only in the late summer 2004.

This was the reason that our activities were very blocked during all the year and the first number (1-4) of our magazine for this year will be published in December 2004.

The new president elected in summer 2004 is Mrs. Dubravka Osrečki Jakelić, senior curator at The Arts & Crafts Museum in Zagreb.

We still do not have any permanent staff and any space for ourselves, but we are hosted now at the Arts & Crafts Museum in Zagreb, Trg maršala Tita 10 (working place of actual president) and our budget is still very small. About 1/4 of our budget are incomes of our membership fees.

Our web-address: is as well for all this year out of function with no new information or reports.
