February 2016

Dear Parents

Book Events for March 2016

Next week is book week so let’s get reading! Activities are voluntary but we’re hoping as many children as possible will get involved!

Here’s what we have planned:

Thursday 3rd March – World Book Day 2016 – Come dressed as your favourite book character!!

Pay £1 come dressed as your favourite book character! We will be parading our costumes and the best ones will win prizes! Money raised will be donated to Book Aid International, who supply books to schools and libraries for children in Africa; every £2 raised equals a new book.

All children will be given a book voucher worth £1. This can be spent in one of two ways: it can be redeemed in book shops to get a World Book Day title, or to receive £1 off a title at the school book fair.

Thursday 3rd March – Tuesday 8th March – The Book Fair

The Book Fair begins on Thursday 3rdMarch (World Book Day) and will be open after school for four days, finishing on Tuesday 8th March. During the day, the children will get the chance to look at the books with their class. If you do not wish to attend the Book Fair and/or for your child to see the titles, please let your child’s class teacher know.

There are a great range of books available, with multiple copies of popular titles, so you do not have to attend on the first day. All books purchased earn commission for the school, allowing us to buy more books, this year we plan to use the money to provide new books for the libraries.

Book Token Competition

In class, children will be designing book tokens. The entries will be entered into a national competition.

Monday 7th March – Monday 14th March 2016 – Readathon

Running for the whole week the Readathon is a sponsored event, encouraging the children to read as much, and as widely as they can. Readathon supports Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Charity (which supports seriously ill and disabled children); Together for Short Lives; Readwell (providing books and stories for hospitals) and CLIC Sargent (supporting children with cancer and their families).

We hope the children enjoy all we have planned for them!

Yours sincerely,

Mr S FitzGerald
