Annual Student Poster SessionGuidelines

Fall Conference

September 21-22, 2015

The Arkansas School Psychology Association (ASPA) offers an opportunity for undergraduate psychology majors and graduate students in school psychology to present their scholarship before a professional audience. The Annual Student Poster Session is designed to allow students to enhance their skills in writing, presentation, and scholarship. The session is also designed as a vehicle for disseminating professional ideas. Another benefit of this activity is to allow students to learn more about the profession of school psychology. Finally, the Annual Student Poster Session facilitates associations between students, school psychologists and/or university professors.

  • The Annual Student Poster Session will occur once per year at the ASPA Fall Conference.
  • The poster session will last for 30 minutes.
  • The deadline for proposal submissions is August 15, 2015.
  • Areas of scholarship will be child/student educational/mental health related. Specifically, areas include: Consultation, Assessment, Intervention, Prevention, Education, Supervision, Research and Planning, and Health Care Provision.
  • A student must be the primary author. However, the student must also have a faculty sponsor who may also appear as a co-author. The student may only submit one proposal per year/conference.
  • The submission guidelines include a completed Application Form and a 200-300 word abstract submitted to the Immediate Past-President. The abstract should not include any identifying information so it can be sent out for blind review. The application and abstract should be sent as separate attachments by the August 15, deadline. A header on the abstract should include the title in case it exceeds one page. The Chair will then in turn send the abstracts to members of the Grant Review Committee for blind review. No university faculty or students will serve on the Grant Review Committee. Students will be notified by e-mail from the Chair after the review is complete in regard to the status of their proposal. Only accepted proposals will be presented or displayed at the ASPA Fall Conference.
  • The student(s) is (are) responsible for creating the poster. There will be a place to secure the poster to a wall or sit free standing on a table. The poster should allow the student(s) to present the title, author(s), university/college affiliation, abstract, introduction, methods, and conclusion. The student(s) should use a font size that is large enough to allow reading from a distance of 3-4 feet. The student(s) should bring approximately 25 copies of their manuscript to the session for interested viewers. The student(s)is (are) responsible for setting up and taking down the posters under the direction of the ASPA Conference Chair/Committee and/or the Grant Chair/Committee. Students must be present for the entire poster session.
  • Students who are presenting must be registered for the conference. Additionally, they are expected to attend the conference. Students who are presenting and attending the ASPA Fall Conference will be charged at half the student conference rate. A copy of accepted abstracts will be included in the registration packets of all ASPA conference attendees.

The student presenters will also have their photographs taken for future publication in The ASPA Voice.
