The past week in review and meeting snapshot for 27thJuly, 2017
Many thanks to Cath Noble, Sue Gray and Veronica Dwyer for the notes which make up this report.
Sergeant at Arms, Cath Noble called all to order and introduced Vice President Sue Gray. Apologies were received from President Graeme Hemming, Dianne Honey, Sharon Knight, Helen Lanigan, Roger Malouf Hans Van Wees and John Watts. Neil Wishart gave an attendance report being eight Rotarians and one Rotaractor, Michelle Worsley.Three members sold raffle tickets for the Father’s Day Raffle while Sandra Houghton attended the public meeting regarding the Great Victorian Bike Ride. Our Guest Speaker is Paul Head, Director of Aged Care Services at Central Gippsland Health. Neil also commented that his very special 85th birthday had not been commented on by club members but it was in the Bulletin. Happy Birthday Neil!! For catering purposes could all members please remember that you need to apologise to Duart if you are not attending a meeting. Over the meal, there was a round table discussion about car licences, driving, and youthful activities involving cars. Sandra Houghton gave members some statistics about the Great Victorian Bike Ride such as there will be 3200 riders, 350-60 volunteers and 80 vehicles. There will be a coffee van, a pizza and Mexican food providers travelling with the riders. Community groups are encouraged to operate food stalls and local shopkeepers are asked to stay open later. The Wellington Shire have suggested some groups could apply for a grant to publicise upcoming events, e.g. Rotary Club of Maffra Mardi Gras, as riders often return to the areas they have ridden through. Sue Gray offered to enquire about obtaining a grant. Nathan said they were planninga pizza and pasta night, to be held at Duart on the Friday night, $30/head - $15 to be given to Rotary. Their offer is appreciated with further conversations to be held. VicePresident Sue Gray welcomed Sue Lawrence to the meeting when she arrived.Cath Noble reminded members about the Father’s Day raffle selling roster. There are three shifts per selling day commencing at 9.30am-11.30am, 11.30am-1.30pm, and 1.30pm-4.00pm On Friday 4thAugust,the first shift is Sandra Houghton and Neil Wishart, followed by Veronica Dwyer and Jean Heasley, and finally Brian and Sue Gray.Wednesday 9th August, First shift is Veronica Dwyer and Neil Wishart, followed by Helen Lanigan and Ted Mitchell with the final shift being John Osborn and Cath Noble.Sergeant At Arms Cath Noble was able to extract some money from the members present. A special mention was made of Ted, who had a green frog jump onto his face as hewasabout to go to sleep at his brothers place. Arthur’s Swindle was held over until next week. Meeting Chairman, Veronica Dwyer, introduced our guest speaker who isPaul Head, Director of Aged Care Services at Central Gippsland Health. Paul started his talk with a little history about Stretton Park. It was built in the 70’s, so people could stay close to their family and the community. In those days, the residents needed to be independent and not requiring a lot of daily assistance. Today, with the “Aging in Place”, a Government initiative, people are encouraged to stay in their own homes for longer with the help of various services. This means when they enter Stretton Park, they are often frailer, and needing a lot of assistance. Over the past two years the Board led by Chairman, Phil Clifford, has been working to upgrade the facilities and bring them up to the standards required by the Government, residents and Staff. The proposal is there will be two new wings, built with larger rooms and bathrooms and two new lounge areas. The residents will then move into the new wings while the original rooms are remodelled – two rooms turned into one room with a larger bathroom. The new design will cater for people with Zimmer frames and motorised wheelchairs. No resident will need to be re-located during the building process. Sue Lawrence passed around the Stage 1 plans, and explained the Board had the support of the local politicians who have been very helpful. The total cost will be approximately $6.5 million, largely funded by the Government grant and their own resources. The grant will be applied for in the next few months, with a decision (hopefully positive) being made early in 2018. The renovations will probably take twelve months to complete. It is expected the financial shortfall maybe $2 -$300,000. Paul Head and Sue Laurence answered many questions from members.Chairman Veronica Dwyerthankedour Guest Speaker, Paul Head for his very interesting talk and presented him with a token of appreciation. Vice President Sue Gray said the caravan was required with Brian Gray to take it down, and Cath Noble to pick it up. The caravan needs someone to fixthe back leg of the caravan as it would not rewind today. Ted Mitchell would like to be told of any swarms of bees as he can rehouse them. Chairman for next week is Helen Lanigan for a trivia night. Vice President Sue Gray thanked Paul Head and Sue Lawrence, closed the meeting and wished all a goodnight. Any volunteers for the Bulletin?? Please contact President GraemeHemming.

President’s Ramblings
As President and most of the executive are heading off on holidays over the next 5 weeks the next committee and board meeting will be on the 14th September.
The first meeting for the Rotary Club of Maffra Mardi Gras will also be held on this night. The 60th birthday celebrations for the Rotary Club of Maffra Mardi Gras will be discussed and planning will commence. Items of interest can be emailed to the President prior to that meeting as no discussions are to take place while the executive are absent. Any decisions coming from this meeting will be made by the club after a discussion.
Unless there is a volunteer to put a Bulletin together, there won’t be one. (Dianne refuses to do anything while away on our overseas holiday) Helen Langian has since volunteered to publish the Bulletin while we are away. Thank you Helen.
I will be contacting all members who will be Chairman while we are away with run sheet and copies of members responsibilities on BBQ’s, caravan, registration etc, on Thursday night.
