The North Carolina HOBY Leadership Seminar

This is a 3-day leadership program for approximately 200 rising high school juniors held each June at North CarolinaStateUniversity in Raleigh. HOBY Ambassadors have an opportunity to develop their critical thinking skills, learn about their personal leadership styles, and form an appreciation for community service.

The North Carolina Education and Training Voucher Program offers funds to foster youth and former foster youth to enable them to attend colleges, universities and vocational training institutions.Students may receive up to $5000 a year for four years as they pursue higher education.The funds may be used for tuition, books or qualified living expenses.These funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis to students out of the North Carolina foster care system.

UNCW Summer Camps – detailed information

ArtSea, ages 12 – 16 - Campers will focus on different artistic interpretations of marine plants, animals and habitats. Each day campers will explore local habitats to garner inspiration and then spend time in the art studio creating their own masterpieces. Guest artists will instruct students in different mediums and share how their own work inspires others to appreciate and protect the marine environment. Students will display their work on the final day in our ArtSea Gallery show.

MarineQuest, ages 5 - 17, offers fun-filled, week-long camps exploring the marine habitats of coastal North Carolina. Younger campers safely explore with nets, buckets, magnifying glasses and more. Older campers explore by foot, boogie board, kayak and more.

Young Entrepreneurial Program, ages 12 - 16 , Students meet with professionals to learn how to start and manage a business in a fun environment. The five-day camp consists of introductory entrepreneurial training based on a progressive business curriculum.

Shore Shots, ages 12 - 16 , Are you a fan of Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel? If so, our camp for aspiring videographers might appeal to you. Document environmental topics related to our marine habitats using digital SLR cameras, binoculars, professional digital video cameras and digital camcorders to create your own public service announcement.

Camp O.C.E.A.N.S., ages 15 - 16 (residential) Think you want to be a marine biologist? How about an oceanographer? Maybe you prefer marine technology specialist? You can check out your career options at our camp designed to let you step into the swim fins of different types of marine scientists and gain some first-hand experience using the kinds of instruments and ROV technology their research requires.

Camp O.C.E.A.N.S. Gulf Stream, ages 15 - 16 (commuter) Our popular campO.C.E.A.N.S. now condensed to a one-week camp designed for commuter campers. Come check out your career options as a marine biologist, an oceanographer or a marine technology specialist. Our camp is designed to let you step into the swim fins of different types of marine scientists and gain some first-hand experience using the kinds of instruments and ROV technology their research requires.

Oceans 17, ages 16 – 17, Oceans 17 provides serious marine science enthusiasts with the chance to conduct experimental research and participate in community service that benefits our marine environment. Campers will spend three weeks collecting and interpreting data that supports current research being conducted by scientists at UNCW. In between their research, kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding and other fun stuff, campers will complete a community service project that improves the quality of our local marine habitats.

Band, Orchestra, Chorus/Voice, and Piano Summer Workshops, grades 9 - 12

Enjoy five days of study and one-on-one interaction with music faculty and guest artists at the University of North Carolina Wilmington Summer Music Camp. The camp is designed to meet the needs of students of varying abilities and experience levels, in the areas of band, orchestra, chorus/voice, and piano, while covering a comprehensive course of instruction in performance, music theory, ensemble performance, and more. Daily schedules include: music theory classes, master classes, individual lessons, small and large ensembles, faculty and student performances, and a final student concert at end of week.

Jazz Summer Workshop, grades 9 - 12 In its 12th year, the UNCW Summer Jazz Workshop has established itself as the premiere summer workshop for jazz study in North Carolina for high school student musicians. The workshop covers virtually every aspect of jazz study and provides ample opportunities to work one-on-one with jazz faculty and guest artists.

Basketball (Girl's) grades 9-12, The Ann Hancock Elite camp is geared to the highly skilled, serious-minded, very intense high school player entering grades 9 - 12. It provides personalized instruction by the UNC Wilmington Women's Basketball staff.

Soccer (Boy's), ages 5 - 18 Day and Residential Camps are offered for the aspiring young soccer player to test their skills and develop new ones. With dedicated, experienced coaches and small camper to staff ratio, your son is guaranteed the attention needed to improve his game. Our camps are designed to improve each player’s technique and understanding of the game, with curriculum tapered to each ability level and age group.

Soccer (Girl's), ages 5 - 18 Lil Hawks Camp: Focuses on the beginning soccer player. Half day camp only. Campers will be exposed to the many technical aspects needed for the younger, beginning soccer player. An emphasis on fun for the week!

Young Writers' Workshop, grades 9 - 12 Young Writers Workshop attendees participate in daily creative writing exercises, craft lectures, writing workshops, and readings. Because the workshop is held on the UNCW campus, students stay in the residence halls and take their meals in the dining facility. The workshop is directed and run by UNCW Department of Creative Writing MFA students and faculty, giving the attendees a chance to study their craft with published, working writers. The workshop is a valuable and exciting experience for young writers interested in learning more about their craft. Although students are asked to submit a work of creative writing in one genre (poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction), attendees will receive instruction in all genres.

North CarolinaStateUniversityEngineeringHigh School Summer Programs

Each summer, the College of Engineering at NC State University offers rising high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to experience engineering, science and technology at NC State.The summer workshops are week-long residential programs through which students can experience engineering, college life and NC State University. These camps provide an excellent opportunity for rising juniors and seniors in high school to investigate engineering as a potential major and career. North CarolinaStateUniversity Design Camp

Design Camp is an annual summer design program offered to high school students at NC State University College of Design. Design Camp informs students about college study in design and raises awareness of the impact of art and design through a series of weeklong summer programs. The exploration of the design process teaches students to question, make choices, generate alternatives, work collaboratively and ultimately broaden their understanding of the world around them.

Camp participants work with camp faculty on projects involving each of the following design disciplines: architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, art + design and graphic design. In addition to studio projects, students participate in other activities all aimed at stimulating their creativity and broadening their understanding of the design field.

UNC Charlotte CSI – Crime Scene Investigation Camp, Grades 9& 10 July 12-16

Become a crime scene investigator (note to parents: it’s NOT a real crime!) A crime scene analyst collects and processes evidence like prints, footwear and tire impressions, firearms evidence, blood and controlled substances, hair, fibers, and gunshot residue. You will reconstruct the crime scene, assemble the evidence for trial, and present your case to a jury as lawyers and expert witnesses. Issues involving the nature of evidence will be explored, as well as following the chain of evidence, drawing inferences from physical data, and trial techniques.

Improv. Build your skills and confidence by learning to perform for the camera as well as for a live audience. Let your imagination run wild and your confidence soar as you create your own situation comedy andreact on the fly to characters like the authoritarian boss, the treacherous colleague, or the juvenile prankster.

Meredith College Looking Toward College: A Residential Program for High School Women (LTC) Four-day residential program, Tuesday–Friday, June 16–19, Cost: $320 Audience: High school women – rising sophomores, juniors and seniors - Meredith College believes it is helpful for high school women to have the opportunity to explore what college life is really like. For the 31st year, Meredith offers a personal skills seminar that focuses on topics such as communication skills, values clarification, college selection and career planning.
