Conahy Notes

HURLING

It was a busy period of hurling actvity last weekend as all three adult teams were in action, as well as the under-16 hurlers. The junior hurlers were up against Erin’s Own (Bagnalstown) in Jenkinstown in the All-County League on Sunday afternoon and scored a handsome victory. A goal from the alert James Bergin set Conahy on their way to ensure that the locals led by 1-10 to 0-4 at half-time. Conahy continued in the same vein throughout the second half and the Carlow men could not respond in kind. Two further goals from Tom Phelan and James Bergin were the highlights in what was a hardworking and extremely positive performance by Conahy, eventually ensuring a 3-23 to 0-9 win. They will hope to continue in this form when they face Naomh Bríd, also of Carlow, in the next round on Friday night next at 7.00 p.m. in Jenkinstown.

Mullinavat fought back well in the second half to cut the deficit to a single point, but Conahy regrouped and Sean Brennan scored their second goal to give some breathing space. However, there was drama right at the end at the game, as Mullinavat were awarded a penalty, but it was well saved by Andy O’Keeffe in the Conahy goal.
