ChickGraph.pdf

Students are given data on hens and roosters and graph their eight. This activity includes an opportunity for students to form a hypothesis and then see how gathering more information can sometimes add to our knowledge and change our hypothesis. The first three roosters are under 8 pounds. The subsequent roosters are all 9 pounds. Students see that when additional data is added to the sample, they change their hypothesis and the results shift. The smaller the sample size, the less accurate the generalizations and conclusions we can draw.
