  1. A pull factor is something that caused people to move. Jobs in mines pulled people to Michigan
  2. Towns grew around farms because farmers needed goods and services
  3. Manufacturing means making products. Important things to Michigan’s manufacturing are lumber, iron, and the Great Lakes.
  4. A push factoris a cause also. The Dutch were pushed out of Holland because they wanted religious freedom
  5. The Great Lakes were/are important because it made shipping minerals easier
  6. Michigan doesn’t mine copper anymore because it became too expensive
  7. Henry Ford is important because he used an assembly line
  8. Green gold is lumber (wood)
  9. Auto manufacturing or making cars is still an important economic activity in Michigan
  10. Farming became an important economic activity in Michigan because….there was lots of land and people came from other states, such as New York for more space. The land was also cheap. As the farmers grew more crops such as; corn, wheat , oats, and potatoes they were able to sell them for a profit (money) then they could buy products that they needed. Farmers also started to raise cows, pigs, sheep and chicken and could sell eggs, wool, and meat to make a profit too.
  11. Lumber camps were near rivers so that the rivers could be used to transport wood to the sawmills
