Helping people with dementia to keep doing the things they love increases wellbeing and helps tackle feelings of isolation.
We are looking for friendlypeople to support those with a diagnosis of a dementia to access activities that they enjoy. This could be anything from playing pool to painting or going to the cinema. As little as an hour a week could make a big difference.
Service: / Budding Friends service for people with a recent diagnosis of dementia and their carer.
Name & purpose of service: / To provide support for people with dementia to find ways to live well and enjoy life.

Role supervisor: / Penny Unitt, Budding Friends Co-ordinator and Carers Support
Day & time: / 1-3 hours per week to be agreed between all parties
Main tasks: /
- To meet with an older person with a recent diagnosis of dementia
- To help him/her engage in an agreed social activity
- To support and encourage the person to engage in activities that interest them
- To offer companionship and support
What we need from you: /
- To be friendly, patient and supportive
- Able to encourage people in their chosen activity
- Empathic and a willingness to understand issues facing those living with dementia (training is available)
- Be happy to join in with chosen activity
- Willingness to complete role relevant training

- Attend Introduction to Age UK Exeter Workshop
- Attend Manual Handling and Dementia Awareness Training within first 3 months
