CARLUS PADRISSA
Director
Born in Balsareny, Carlus Padrissa is one of six artistic directors of La Fura dels Baus, one of the most innovative and prestigious spanish theater companies. Founded in 1979, the company stands out from the beginning to search for their own language, in which public participation is the key to the development of the show. The first important works of the company include Accions of 1984, Suz / O / Suz 1985, Tier Mon, 1988, Noun 1990 and MTM 1994, and were highly successful with audiences and critics. In 1992, along with Alex Ollé, Padrissa directs in collaboration with Hansel Cereza, Arús Jordi, Miquel Badosa and Pera Tantina Mediterrani, Mar Olimpic, show with music by Ryuichi Sakamoto, the center of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Barcelona.
The first operas are projects in collaboration with Ollé: L'Atlantida by De Falla in 1996 and Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien by Debussy in 1997. Follow La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz in 1999 at the Salzburg Festival; Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, as part of the Ruhr Biennale, in 2003, Il Castello del duca Barbablù by Bartók and Janáček's Diario di uno scomparso, co-production of the Opéra National Paris and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in 2007. He directs the artistic activities of the ship Naumon, an old boat of 60 meters in length and 1100 tons of weight, transformed into a modern cultural center floating, sailing for more than 40,000 miles, from the Atlantic Ocean through the Mediterranean to reach the seas of China. In 2007 the debut: Monteverdi's L'Orfeo at the Quadricentennial of the first performance.
He directed many works of Wagner, working with the Indian conductor Zubin Mehta: Das Rheingold and Die Walküre in 2007, Siegfried in 2008 at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Gotterdamerung in 2009 at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Tannhäuser in 2010 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
In 2011, with Zubin Mehta, he prepares Puccini's Turandot which debuts at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Monaco. In 2008 he directed Michaels Reise um die Erde by Karlheinz Stockhausen produced by the Vienna Festival, the Cologne Opera, the Venice Biennale and the Autumn Festival in Paris.
In 2009, for the San Sebastián Music Fortnight debuts with Orff's Carmina Burana at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and under the direction of Valery Gergiev he prepares Les Troyens by Berlioz. Always at Palau in Valencia in 2011 he stages the Respighi's Trilogia Romana. That same year, at the 25th Festival of Peralada he presents Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck.
In 2008, for the celebrations of the bicentennial of 2 May in Madrid, he directs the show Los Fusilamientos by Goya. In 2010, for the opening of the European Cultural Capital Ruhr in Duisburg he stages Global Rheingold attended by half a million people. With Alex Ollé, he realizes Window of the City, a show created for the Universal Exposition in Shanghai in 2010, always with Ollé he directs Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny by Kurt Weill at the Teatro Real in Madrid, also performed at the Bolshoi in Moscow and at the Megaron in Athens. In 2011 he opens the celebrations of the bicentennial of Uruguay.
Join the world premiere of four new works: DQ. Don Quijote en Barcelonaby José Luis Turina, produced by the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and directed with Alex Ollé in 2000; Auf den Marmolkippen by Giorgio Battistelli, produced by Opera Theatre of Mannheim in 2002; Sonntag aus Licht by Stockhausen produced from the Opera House of Koln in 2011; Babylon by Widmann produced by the Bayerische Staatsoper in Monaco in 2012.
He made his debut at the Arena di Verona signing with Alex Ollé the direction of Aida, opening opera at Centennial Festival 2013.
