2015 BDPA COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

BDPA’s Scholarship Program provides a qualified returning college student financial assistance for college tuition. The program recognizes a college student who exemplifies accomplishment in scholarship, leadership and service, including excellence in Computer Science. BDPA’s intent is to encourage students interested in computers to continue their education throughout college.

SELECTION:The selection process is a simple procedure:

  1. Applications will be reviewed to determine if applicants meet minimum requirements
  1. 700 Word Essay will be evaluated (please list sources or works cited)
  1. Qualifying applicants must undergo an interview either in person or via teleconference conducted by a committee of BDPA members within two - four weeks of the application deadline

Beyond the minimum guidelines, students who apply must meet objective criteria successfully. The objective criteria include scholarship, leadership and service guidelines, this application, a 700 word essay and an interview, either in person or via teleconference.

  1. Cumulative 3.0 grade point average
  1. 2 Letters of recommendation from a professor, advisor, or department head.
  1. Active participation in at least two types of organizations for one or more years
  1. Continued Fall attendance at a college or university
  1. UnofficialCollege transcript must be included.

8. Essay. Submit with this application an essay of at least 700 typed wordswith sources (works cited) on any of the following topics:

  1. STEM Initiatives- discuss how federal or state STEM Initiatives are making an impact on Education.
  1. Careers in Information Technology - explore career choices available today and what new careers maybe available in the future in the Information Technology industry.
  1. Cloud Computing – discuss the architecture, application, and business impact of cloud computing
  1. The Digital Divide - discuss what it is, who it affects, its impact on society, and if you agree/disagree with the idea that it will cease to exist in the future and why.
  1. Innovation – Create a mobile application. Discuss what is it, your target market ( who would you sale/market this application to), how much would you charge for it ( price model) and why we should purchase your product over what’s in the market (market analysis)
  1. Leadership – discuss what makes a good leader. What characteristics should he/she have? What type of style should he/she have? Is there a look that he or she should have?
  1. Computers and Music – discuss the future of the music industry in a high tech world. With music and concerts streaming online will we need CD’s, live concerts, or radio stations?

9. Personal or Teleconference Interview - Conducted by BDPA representatives, the interview will address a variety of topics, including the student’s future plans and objectives. Interviews will be scheduled following verification of this application and its contents.
