TAREA DEL MUNDO REAL / REAL WORLD HOMEWORK
SEGUNDO SEMESTRE / 2nd SEMESTER
INSTRUCCIONES:
- Each quarter, choose 5 of the following assignments to complete. You must choose 5 different assignments.
- Each assignment is worth 10 homework points.
- You may complete one additional assignment for extra credit.
- Post each assignment to your personal blog. Write the assignment number (#) in the title of each blog post.
- All assignments must be completed in Spanish.
- All writing must reflect your own effort—use online translators as little as possible. If significant portions of your work have been written using an online translator, no credit will be given for that assignment.
- Assignments will be checked at the end of the quarter, and are due by 11:59pm on the due date.

# / Assignment Description#1-#19 / (First semester options) You may still use these options during second semester, but you may only repeat one assignment that you have done so far this year.
#20 / Invent your own real world homework! Email Srta. Gerstner to get approval first.
#21 / Teach yourself the words to a song in Spanish, and upload a video to your blog of you singing the song. (Lyrics do not have to be memorized.) I recommend learning the words to a Spanish song you’ve heard before, or learning the words to the Spanish version of a familiar English-language pop song (can be found on Youtube).
#22 / Go to or another news website in Spanish and choose an article that is at least partially comprehensible to you. Read the article, and come up with 5 open-ended discussion questions about the information in the article. Post questions and article link to your blog.
#23 / Create a comic strip in Spanish, by hand or using an online comic creator. It’s up to you how many panels or pictures you include, but your comic should include at least 20 complete sentences in Spanish. Upload the comic to your blog.
#24 / Have a conversation in Spanish via text message (with someone else who is taking Spanish, has taken Spanish classes, or a native speaker). The conversation should include 20 text messages or more. Upload screenshots of the messages to your blog, or type the conversation into a blog post.
#25 / Check out the website for Spanish department store El Corte Inglés, ( and click around the site. List 20 vocab words that you understand in Spanish that you read on the site. Additionally, answer these questions:
¿Quéquierescomprar? Include links to at least 3 items.
¿Qué no quierescomprar? Include links to at least 3 items.
#26 / Research a Spanish-speaking country of your choice. Write a paragraph (8-10 sentences) describing basic information about the country (i.e. how many people live there, major cities, climate/seasons, celebrations, etc.), and mention at least 3 different places you want to visit within the country and why you want to visit them.
#27 / Listen to 5 different songs in Spanish by the same musical artist, and write a paragraph (8-10 sentences) describing the artist and their music. Questionstoconsider: ¿De dónde es la banda/el cantante? ¿Qué tipo de música canta? ¿Es la música generalmente triste, feliz, romántica, apropiada, inapropiada, etc.? ¿Cuál es tu canción favorita y por qué?

Look up clips of a familiar English-language cartoon on Youtube, dubbed or subtitled in Spanish. Watch 20-30 minutes of video clips, and write a paragraph of 8-10 sentences describing what happened in the clips you watched. Include links to video clips in your blog post as well.
#29 / Read AND listen to an article on a summary of the article(8-10 sentences) in your own words, and include the article link in your blog post as well.
#30 / Read poetry in Spanish! Check out the website and choose one poet. Read their biography and at least 5 different poems. In your blog post, copy and paste the poem you understood best. Additionally, write a paragraph (8-10 sentences) describing the poet and the themes/topics you noticed based on reading their poetry.

#31 / Using the website complete the tutorial, games, and test for 5 different topics. In your blog post, write down all words you learned for each topic, plus your test scores.
*The site includes both Beginner and Intermediate topics. For Spanish II, at least 2 out of 5 topics must be Intermediate. For Spanish III, at least 3 out of 5 topics must be Intermediate.

#32 / Watch 5 different videos from the Angry Family Spanish cartoon series on Youtube ( In your blog entry, include a list of 10 Spanish words you learned from the videos, and use each word in an original sentence.
#33 / Check out the website for People En Español ( Write about what’s going on with at least 10 different celebrities you read about on the site. Write 2-3 sentences in Spanish, in your own words, about each celebrity.
#34 / Practice speaking Spanish online with other language learners! Create an account with Verbling ( and participate in an online discussion (can be video or audio chat) with one of the Spanish practice groups on the site. Spend at least 20 minutes in an online discussion, then write in your blog about what you said and what the topics of the conversation were.
*Make sure you have permission from your family to use this site before participating in one of the online discussions! Families can email Srta. Gerstner if they have questions about the site.
#35 / Check out ESPN’s Spanish language website: Click around the site, and look for 10 cognates that are new to you in Spanish. Use each cognate in an original sentence.
#36 / *CCC Skills Competition (worth 20 points or 2 assignments):
This is only an option for students who have already signed up for the competition that is happening on February 26th! For participating students, describe your experience in Spanish in a paragraph of 8-10 sentences. Additionally, upload a photo of yourself at the competition to your blog.
