PERSONNEL POLICY GUIDELINES FOR PARISHES

JOB DESCRIPTION

I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

Position Title: RCIA COORDINATOR

Status: Full-Part-Time, 12 month

Reports to: Pastor

II. PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION

The Coordinator of RCIA establishes and coordinates the catechumenate team and all catechumenal ministries.

III. POSITION CONTENT

A. MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND REGULAR ACTIVITIES

1. Implements the ongoing adult initiation (and children of catechetical age) process in the parish according to the vision of the 1988 Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

a. Recruits, trains and provides ongoing formation for members of the catechumenate team and all catechumenal ministers.

b. Collaborates with the pastor, liturgy coordinator and musician in preparation and implementation of the rites.

c. Provides adequate RCIA resource materials for the catechumenate team.

d. Provides ongoing formation of the assembly, e.g., sponsors, hospitality, etc.

e. Educates and informs the parish leadership and parish community concerning the RCIA and the primary role the community plays in that process.

2. Remains in contact with other RCIA directors, the Archdiocesan RCIA team and the North American Forum on the Catechumenate.

3. Provides ongoing evaluation of the catechumenal process and work of the team.

IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

A. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR ABILITIES (SKAs)

1. Must have the necessary training and background in theology and initiation ministry

2. Must be able to work in a collaborative style of ministry

3. Must have a pastoral perspective in ministry

4. Must have managerial skills

5. Must be an effective communicator

B. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Required: A degree in theology or related field or

A certificate in pastoral ministry with experience in paid/volunteer parish ministry, e.g., Forum Institute, RCIA Team member, etc.

V. RESPONSIBILITY FOR QUANTIFIABLE MEASURES

The Coordinator of RCIA is responsible for proposing and maintaining a budget adequate for the implementation of the RCIA.

VI. WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position requires frequent evening and weekend work.
