Synchronization Server Prerequisites (Server 2008/R2)

Prior to installing the FIM Synchronization Engine, there are several pre-requisites that must be met.

First, make sure that Windows Update has been run (to completion) and that the server is fully updated with all available patches. Once this has been completed, make sure that Microsoft .Net 3.5.1 is installed.

To install:

Navigate to the “Server Manager”

Select “Features”

Click on “Add Features”

Select “.Net Framework 3.5.1 Features”

This will notify you that you must also add the required IIS role service. Select “Add Required Role Services” to continue.

Click “Next”

Leave the options default and click “Next”

To install, click “Install”

From here, you may wish to re-run Windows Update, as new updates may have become available. Once complete, it is necessary that the SQL Server 2008 Native Client be installed.

*NOTE*: If Microsoft SQL is to be hosted on the same machine as the Synchronization Engine, installation of the SQL 2008 Native Client is not required and may be skipped.

To install, download the SQL Server 2008 Native Client, and double-click to begin. This will open the installer:

After reading and accepting the End User License Agreement, click “Next to continue:

Enter the “Registration Information” as required, and then click “Next” to continue:

You may leave the defaults and click “Next” to continue:

Click “Install” to begin the installation:

Once complete, click “Finish”
