Curriculum in PE

Pre-instruction: Equipment, rules, safety, etiquette

Common Level 3 Strategies: positions, moving to open space, communication

If you suspect someone else might not understand the word or activity (give a very brief description in parenthesis. For example, what is “skier” in a jump rope activity?

Do not repeat the same concept multiple times 2v2, 3v3, 4v4.

Small sided games are not practice activities for discrete or combination of skills. There are modified games meant to promote several skills, concepts, or strategies.

Floor Hockey

Level 1 (discrete skills): grip, dribble, receive, push pass, lead pass, shooting, goalie tactics,

Level 2 (comb. of skills): receive and shoot, dribble and shoot, leading passes while moving, goal tending

Level 3 (strategy): basic plays (give and go, pick and roll), offensive strategies (half court sets), defense strategies (zone defenses), looking for open pass, communication

Level 4 (small sided games): keep away, scoring by completing passes, shooting on goal w/o goalies, zone games, monkey in the middle

Jump Rope

Beginner: single bounce, double bounce, single sidewing, skier, skipping rope twirls

Intermediate: Any discrete while moving, rope twirls with any discrete skills, how long can you go?, criss-cross, backwards

Advanced: double dutch, jumping to music rhythms, mirror a partner

Lacrosse

Level 1 (discrete skills): grip, stick skills (??), cradle, throw, catch, shot, ground balls, sidearm, shovel pass, flick

Level 2 (comb. of skills): basic plays (give and go, ….), pass and shot, pass and cut, receive and shoot

Level 3 (strategy): offensive strategy (??), defense (?),

Level 4 (small sided games): knock out (?), score by completing passes, ground ball game (?), one on one to goal, keep away

Soccer

Level 1 (discrete skills): dribble, trap, kick, pass, shoot, head, throw-in, punt, lead pass,

Level 2 (comb. of skills): trap and pass, trap ball from air, receive and shoot, goal skills

Level 3 (strategy): offense (??), defense (?), head down (?)

Level 4 (small sided games): octopus (?), knockout, keep away, score points by completing passes, short soccer, shooting without goalies, goalie wars (?)

Fencing

Level 1 (discrete skills): lunge, guard position, parry, attacks

Level 2 (comb. of skills): step and lunge, parry to attack, guard position to attack, guard position to parry

Level 3 (strategy): attacking maneuvers (?), defensive maneuvers (?)

Level 4 (small sided games): mock sparring

Golf

Beginner: grip, stance, chip, pitch, full swing, putt,

Intermediate: uphill/downhill lies, chip and run

Advanced: draw, fade, bump and run, flop shot

Activities: 3 hole course, pay for local course, driving range, hoops course, captain and crew, accuracy contests into hoop, mini-golf course (local one or homemade in gym)

Weight Training

Beginner: machine exercises, free weight exercises, medicine balls, flexibility exercises, balance ball,

Intermediate: spotting, intermediate difficulty exercises (squat, cable crossover machines…?), create and follow a routine, record keeping, medicine balls,

Advanced: personal fitness program, pound for pound competition, presentation of an exercise

Pilates

Beginner: c-curve exercise, swan with neck roll, breathing exercises, arms over exercises, pelvic rocking, pelvic curl (or bridge), should warm-ups, spine twist, chest lift with oblique twists, roll ups, spine stretch, swan, cat stretch

Intermediate: double straight leg lowers, mermaid side stretch, teaser with one leg, roll over, criss-cross

Advanced: jack knife, straight arm pumps with raised legs, single plank on balance ball, rollover exercises with balance ball

Swing Dance

Beginner: stance and body position, rock step, single L & R, triple L & R, hand position, turning, triple with rock step, rock step and turn,

Intermediate: triple-rock step-turn, connecting movements, intermediate movements (duck under, twist, double hand over….), mood of music, speed of music

Advanced: advanced moves (draw away, he goes/she goes…), combinations of advanced movements, lifts, improvisation, teach a dance sequence

Kickboxing

Beginner: basic stance, elbow strikes, undercut elbow strike, punching, kicks,

Intermediate: Punch and move, kick and move, two punches, 3 punches (2 high, 1 how), punch and kick, punch and sweep, target striking,

Advanced: Sparing against someone holding pads, 1 on 1, compotetiton using only upper or lower body,

Running

Beginner: posture, arm swing, foot action, pacing, hydration, forward run, breathing

Intermediate: Power walking, motivation, nutrition, goal setting, 5K

Advanced: Races, bi/triathlon, mile runs, heart rate monitors, relay, hill running

Team Handball

Level 1 (discrete skills): throwing, catching, passing, shooting (scoring)

Level 2 (comb. of skills): throw and catch (while moving),

Level 3 (strategy): Defensive strategies ?, offensive strategies,

Level 4 (small sided games): 3 on 3, tag game without ball,

Basketball

Level 1 (discrete skills): dribble, pass (bounce, chest, overhead), shoot (set, jump), rebounding, boxing out

Level 2 (comb. of skills): fast break, rebound and outlet pass, lay-up, dribble and pull up for shot,

Level 3 (strategy): basic plays (pick and roll, give and go), offensive/defensive plays, zone defense (1-3-1, 2-3, 3-2, box in 1), triple threat (pass, shoot, dribble), defense on the ball, low post offense (hook shot, turn around),

Level 4 (small sided games): half court (2 v 2, 3 v 3), no dribble games, specify number of passes before shooting,

Flag Football

Level 1 (discrete skills): throw, catch, tackle (pull flag), pass routes, hand-off, blocking, pulling a flag

Level 2 (comb. of skills): pass routes and catch,

Level 3 (strategy): coordinating plays to the defense, defense (cover 1 & 2), blitz, cut-off angles, marking opponents

Level 4 (small sided games): 2 v 2, etc, pass only offenses,

Field Hockey

Level 1 (discrete skills): grip (indian, reverse), stick handling, drive shot, flick shot, pass (push, drive, float, through), tight dribble, speed dribble,

Level 2 (comb. of skills): pass and go, defending the pass, cut and receive a pass, shoot off the dribble, trainagel passes,

Rock Climbing

Beginner: belay team, putting on harness, trust falls, traverse wall, spotting, helmet, knots, belay team,

Intermediate: climb wall (intermediate course), diagonal climb, zip line,

Advanced: overhang climbing, rappelling, advanced section of climbing wall, team climbing,

Mountain Biking

Beginner: flat surface ride, carrying a bike, learning gears, braking, safety,

Intermediate: Incline/decline riding, trail riding,

Advanced: Emergency maneuvers, jumps, tricks

Personal defense:

Beginner: kicks (low/high), punches, arm escapes,

Intermediate: spar against mock attacker (with pads),

Advanced: create mock scene and present how to defend it step by step,

Aquatics

Level 1 (discrete skills): bobbing, kicking, floating (back front), basic strokes (crawl, side, back, and breast), treading water, diving (pool side, diving board)

Level 2 (comb. of skills): gliding (front/back), lap turns, dive in and crawl stroke, pike dive

Archery
