Create a class brainstorm on the wall.
What makes up a person?
Activity 1.
Everyone is going to draw a picture of themselves in as much detail as they can.
Then I want you to list as many words, small sentences as you can round the outside as to what makes up you.
Discuss what students have written ( most things will probably be physical or describing their personality)
Activity 2.
Walk around the room, can you find anyone with the same traits as you? write the names down next to these words.
Activity 3.
Circle what you class as positive and negative traits. Have you listed both?
Activity 4.
Give out a card to every student in the group. They are not to look at it but must hold it on their forehead. And ace is high and a 1 is low.
You must treat these people according to what is on their card. Ace = highly respected 1= scum.
Allow students to mingle then try and rank them selves in order.
Conclusion (wrap up)
When was your self esteem affected in a positive way? When was it affected in a negative way?
How have you effected someone’s self esteem in a positive or negative way? / Introduce today’s SLO and topic.
Today we are looking at sense of self and self esteem.
What is self esteem?
Self assessment of worth ( can be positive or negative)
What can affect self esteem?
Hormones, puberty, outside influences.
Have students think about:
Abilities, competencies, hobbies, interests, culture, family, beliefs, attitudes, values, past experiences
What do you notice? That everyone has similarities and differences.
Emphasise to the boys everyone can have positive and negative traits it makes us human, nut we need to control our negative aspects and let our positives shine through.
Discuss who felt good? Who felt uncomfortable?
Was it appropriate to treat someone based on a number?
What other situations could we link this to?
Hair colour, size, clothes.
