BUSA TRAMPOLINING JUDGING 2005-6

Every trampoline competition requires tens of form judges; tariff and superior judges; marshals, recorders and other officials. Without these officials, no-one could compete.

In most competitions, clubs must provide a number of qualified judges according to their number of competitors. Judges must be named on the entry form when it is submitted. Additional judges can be nominated and make the organisers’ task a lot easier!

In the past, organisers have relied upon the generosity of a small number of universities to provide many judges. To be fairer to all universities, from 2001 BUSA asked each competing institution to nominate judges to ensure judging responsibilities are shared fairly between universities, and also ensure there are sufficient judges for the competition to be organised smoothly. Therefore your institution will be required to nominate qualified judges for the regional qualifying rounds.

Judges will be nominated for half-days, so clubs can nominate competitors to judge if desired; they will be allocated morning or afternoon duties according to their competition time. If dedicated judges are available, they may fill two half-days. The requirements are shown below:

NUMBER OF COMPETITORS / NUMBER OF OFFICIALS REQUIRED
1 – 3 / None required, but any gratefully accepted
4 – 6 / 1 half day, must be a qualified judge
7 – 9 / 2 half days, at least 1 by a qualified judge
10 – 12 / 3 half days, at least 2 by qualified judge(s)
13 – 15 / 4 half days, at least 2 by qualified judge(s)
16 – 18 / 5 half days, at least 3 by qualified judges
19 – 21 / 6 half days, at least 3 by qualified judges
22 – 27 / 8 half days, at least 4 by qualified judges
28 + / 9 half days, at least 5 by qualified judges

Universities should note that it is their responsibility to provide these judges as part of their participation in the championships and therefore expenses will not be paid by BUSA for university nominated judges.

Please note that your entries may be rejected if you unable to provide the appropriate number of officials.

Without judges, no-one could take part in trampolining competitions. Your contribution to the sport is valued!

COURSES AND CONTACTS

Anyone aged 15 or over may become a judge by attending a 12 hour BG course, and passing the final exam. The course is run over two days, with the exam at the end of the second day, and usually costs between £30 and £40 per person. The potential judge must purchase Associate British Gymnastics membership, if not already a member, at £10.50. The course organiser will normally provide forms for this on the course.

The course covers relevant competition rules, competition procedures and recording, and the skills needed to analyse trampolining performances for form judging, upto a tariff of 3 – 3.5. For these reasons it is also a useful qualification for coaches to hold when preparing competitors; (the judging knowledge is useful for coach exams also).

Most regions organise courses whenever sufficient demand exists, so you will need to contact local judging secretaries to register your interest. To find out about planned courses in your area, contact your regional judging secretary, a list of which are shown in the table that follows.

In the past, many University Clubs have successfully organised and hosted judge courses. Also, many courses are listed on once announced.
