PUBLIC RELATIONS

Connect.kaboom.org

-  Consider registering and using connect.kaboom.org as a virtual gathering place to plan, meet, and discuss the project with the other committee members

-  In addition, you can use this site to direct volunteers to, so that they can learn more about this project

VIPs and MEDIA

-  There will be a specific Public Relations call about one-month out from Build Day where KaBOOM! will provide media release templates as well as templates for VIP invitation letters

-  Prior to that call, it’s not a bad idea to start thinking about local VIPs and media outlets that you may want to contact

MUSIC and DJ

-  We’ve seen time and time again on our projects that music is key to a successful Build Day

-  Secure a sound/PA system with a microphone (wireless if possible but not necessary) that can play music throughout the Build Day

-  Identify and secure a DJ (or someone playing DJ) who can be responsible for playing family-friendly music throughout the day

-  Be sure DJ (or person playing DJ) has a wide variety of music, and has enough of it to last about 6 hours

WARM-UP STRETCHER

-  On Build Day morning, we’ll need someone who can lead the hundreds of volunteers in a quick stretch

-  This should be short, sweet, and done with tons of energy! (no more than 3 minutes)

SPEAKERS for KICKOFF and CLOSING

-  In general, there will be someone from the funding partner and from the community partner to speak at both the kickoff and closing ceremonies

-  The same person can speak at both or it can be a different person at each; please work with the committee to determine who will be speaking from each side at the respective times

-  Speeches are usually no more than a couple of minutes, focused mainly on thanking volunteers and talking about this project and what it means for those involved and the kids
