What kind of climate do you live in?

Dry seasons start in October while tailing off May and rains seasons start in June and ending in September each year

What is the estimated population in the region where you serve? 1.6 Million Whereas 848,000 (53%) are females and 752,000 (47%) males. (Tanzania National Sensus 2002)

What are some of the main ways people in your area earn their living?

1,216,000 (76%) population are peasants and animal keepers as they cultivate maize, cassava, sweat potatoes, oil palm, and varieties of green vegetables and sorghum as food crops and coffee and bananas as cash crops. 272,000 (17%) population do fishing along the World second deepest Lake Tanganyika and its inlet rivers like Maragarasi and Luiche rivers. 80,000 (5 %) do petty business in towns particularly, Kigoma Municipal, Kasulu and Kibondo.32,000 (2%) are employed in both government and private sectors.

Based on the 2009 and 2010 Kigoma regional social economical development annual reports indicate the main common problems that face poor dwellers in Kigoma region which are as follows;

Social needs:

-97% of youth, women and disabled community based organizations (CBOs) have inadequate capacities in service delivery in the community. The problem is chiefly caused by lacking office equipments and tools like computers printers, scanners, photocopiers, digital cameras in towns and generators for those that are in rural areas. Others are furniture, files, stationeries and punching machines. They also lack field gears.

-Women Rights Action Group (WRAG) provides poor coordination in the community as it lacks transport.

-4 Orphans centres namely; Sanganigwa A and B, Kigoma and Matiazo provide poor services for orphans as they lack sports gears, clothes, shoes, bedding materials, persons tools and equipments, and educational materials. The centres have buildings and staff.

-99.8 % Many Primary schools that are newly constructed by government in Kigoma Municipal provide poor education services as they lack equipment and tools like computers for improving information technology and sporting gears. Put into consideration that the Municipal has reliable electrical power, trained teachers and security.

-Only Katubuka Primary School that enrols mentally disabled and hand capped students provide poor education services as they lacks tools and equipments like computers for improving information technology and sporting gears. Put into consideration that the Municipal has reliable electrical power, trained teachers and security. It also has poor infrastructures.

-Only Lake Tanganyika stadium in Kigoma Municipal provide poor sports services as it lacks girls sporting gears like nets, goals, ground and jesses.

-The World second deepest Lake Tanganyika provide poor sports services as it lacks swimming gears which may be also used as recreational and tourism purposes.

-Peasant and fishing people still use traditional tools like hand tools, boats for fishing while using poor quality seeds and agricultural equipments and tools and fish processing tools and equipments. Also, they lack protective gears.

-Animal keepers provide poor quality products as they lack animal and products tools and equipments

Economic needs: The reports also indicate that people in Kigoma face the main common economical problems are as follows;

-79% farmers-groups have low incomes as they lack improved processing equipments like grinding machines and storage gears. Moreover, they also lack oil extracting/pressing machines.

-98.7% women especially, disabled tailoring, knitting and embroidery groups have low incomes as they lack improved both manual and electrical sewing machines.

-89% youth carpenters groups have low incomes as they lack improved carpentry equipments and tools.

-Many palm oil soap making people have low incomes as they lack improved palm oil extracting equipment and tools.

-100% shoes repairing and making people have low incomes as they lack improved both electrical and manual shoes making (sewing) tools and equipments.

-100% youth clothes washing groups have low incomes as they lack improved both manual and electrical equipments and tools.

87% of out school youths (male and females) lack employment opportunities from either government or private or self ones. Put also into consideration that out of them, 71% have knowledge and skills in various trades got from either vocational training centres or colleges in the country.

Physical/Health needs:

Furthermore, the reports indicate the following under physical and health aspects:

-97% of hand capped people have poor services as they lack supporting gears like bicycles, wheel chairs, artificial legs and hands, sticks, audiovisual tools and equipments and educational facilities.

-100% albinos face skin problems as they have no skin protective gears including oils.

-100 eyes impaired and deaf people face information technology as they lack equipments and tools for training.

- 69% of medical stores in towns provide poor quality services as they lack equipments and tools like furniture, storages and packaging materials.

-61% of rural dispensaries provide poor quality services as they laboratory equipments and tools and admission equipments and tools and staff protective gears.

Other needs (For example, Youth):

Most of the girls are discriminated from education and employment opportunities engage in illegal prostitutes that resulting into getting HIV and AIDS and eventually, increasing deaths and other related sister problems resulting into absolute poverty.

Community Environmental Hygiene and cleanliness:

-52% community members live in poor and dirty environments as they lack improved environmental equipments and tools like grass cutters, cobs, dust beans, fumigation equipments and tools and, protective gears.

Community Environmental Protection:

-100% community members do not participate in environmental protection especially, during the unprotected bush fire outbreak as they lack fire extinguisher equipments and tools, protective gears.
