Course Description: This course will begin by addressing the universal call to holiness and the need for those called to the vocation of catechist to live a life of faithful Christian discipleship. The nature and content of evangelization and catechesis will be covered. Students will be introduced to catechetical work from the inception of the Church through our own period of Church history. Finally, divine pedagogy and valid catechetical methodology will be explored. Students will become familiar with a practical catechetical methodology, which is user-friendly and faithfully at the service of the divine deposit of faith.

*It is a requirement that students taking this course serve as catechists in their parish for the entire PSR year. Upon completion of the course and service of one PSR year, each student will be awarded basic catechist certification from the Catholic Diocese of Wichita.

**Students who will be 18 years old prior to May 25th must attend a VIRTUS training session.

Procedures and Policies

-Students will be expected to come to class with all materials and books each day.

-Tardiness will not be tolerated. If you are tardy you will receive a demerit.

-Attendance is very important. Any unexcused absence will result in a zero for any work missed that day. Suspensions and In School Suspensions will be handled the same way as an unexcused absence.

-Cheating will not be tolerated. Anyone caught cheating will immediately receive a zero on that test or assignment, parent will be contact and student will receive a detention.

-All rules on the back of your demerit card will be enforced.

-The main thing I expect is respect. As long as we respect each other and the rules we will have a great semester together. Let us remember that we are in a Catholic School and that we are all created in the Image and Likeness of God. Let us try and pray to see Christ in everyone. Anything that goes against this will not be tolerated.
