THE 4th WOMEN IN COMEDY FESTIVAL 2016

The fourth Women in Comedy Festival, the only Festival of its kind in Europe, is to take place in Manchester Thursday 20 October 2016 to Sunday 30 October 2016. This is a Festival gaining international attention with acts travelling in from as far afield as America and Sweden.

The acts and shows are now all confirmed and a full programme includes many award winning comedians, sketch comedy, political theatre and even a comedic murder mystery show and a couple of dry bar shows. There are workshops, shows for children and for anyone looking to promote themselves in the best light, there’s the opportunity to have a headshots session with a professional photographer. And that’s not all. The Club Feminista - Official Afterparty show is offering an all female line up of DJs and open mic opportunities for all art forms including comedy, music and in support of female sound engineers in the industry, DJing. This year also sees a Comedy Writing Competition.

“There are thousands of female comedians out there,” says Festival Director Hazel O’Keefe. “They don’t however always get the presence on the comedy scene they deserve. The Women in Comedy Festival was set up to showcase, promote and nurture female comedy across a wide variety of platforms.”

To this end there is every opportunity for experienced comedians to develop their stand-up comedy for and for those taking their first steps in this direction there are workshops and open mic nights.

For audiences the Women in Comedy Festival has something for everyone with any kind of interest in comedy and to make things affordable there are shows with optional prices starting from as low as £2. There’s no excuse for not getting out and having a laugh!

About the Women in Comedy Festival

The Women in Comedy Festival will run Thursday 20 October 2016 to Sunday 30 October 2016 at venues across Manchester. Tickets for all shows can be booked via the Festival website.

“The Festival gives women a place to perform, network and exchange ideas and it’s something I’m incredibly pleased and proud to support,” says Festival Patron Jo Caulfield.

Joining Jo Caulfield as Festival Patrons are comedians Jo Enright, Susan Calman, Isy Suttie and actor Maxine Peake.

The Festival has previously been nominated for Manchester’s Be Proud Award and the Festival Director is Hazel O’Keefe of Dulcet Sounds, an award winning, not-for-profit, Manchester based event managementcompany.

The Festival was a natural progression of the monthly all female Laughing Cows Comedy Nights which Hazel has been organising for over 17 years at the Frog and Bucket Comedy Club in Manchester and other venues around the country and abroad. Hazel’s passion for championing and supporting women in comedy has earned her a Women of Arts and Culture award from Manchester City Council.
