DESCRIPTION

This is work representing the State of Florida in criminal or civil litigation, and administrative and other legal proceedings, drawing up legal documents, conducting legal research and advising agencies on legal issues and transactions. Incumbents may specialize in a single area or may practice broadly in many areas of law.

Some positions in this occupation may be responsible for coordinating work and supervising employees.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Supervises employees by assigning work, reviewing progress and assessing performance.

Conducts case, examining and cross-examining witnesses, and summarizes case for presentation to judge or jury.

Advises clients concerning business transactions, claim liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, or legal rights and obligations.

Interviews clients, witnesses, victims, and other relevant parties to ascertain facts of case, including the taking of depositions.

Gathers evidence to formulate defense or to initiate or in preparation for legal actions.

Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuit.

Evaluates findings and develops strategy and arguments in preparation for presentation of case.

Studies Constitution, statutes, decisions, regulations, rules, administrative policies and procedures and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies.

Confers with colleagues with specialty in area of legal issue to establish and verify basis for legal proceeding.

Interprets laws, rulings and regulations for individuals and business.

Develops rules and policies.

Prepares and files legal briefs and other pleadings.

Prepares and drafts legal pleadings and documents.

Prepares legal opinions.

Acts as agent, trustee, guardian, or executor for business or individuals.

Searches for and examines public and other legal records.

Represents client in state and federal court, legal proceedings and/or before government agency.

Presents evidence to prosecute defendant in litigation.

Presents evidence to defend client in litigation.
