The 107th Annual Session of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education Report

Course: THE EDUCATIONAL TASK OF THE CHURCH

This course was to acquaint students with the various educational ministries of the local church and focus on the unique role each ministry plays in the attainment of educational goals of the local church.

Two things the church should always do: Edify and Evangelize. (Acts 1:8; Matthew 28: 19-20) Proverbs 9:9 says: Teach a just man and he will increase in learning.

When the church teaches, something should happen.

Transformation; Equip; Arm; Change; Help

The Old & New Testaments are the inspired, authoritative Word of God, therefore we must equip ourselves and others for personal growth while meeting their needs. II Timothy 3:16-17

The church is not a program. It should not be the place where people come to be entertained. In today’s changing congregations the METHOD of teaching should change but the MESSAGE should always remain the same.

~Traditions can kill a church. Every church needs youth in order to survive therefore we must make sure our “traditional ways” do not cause the younger members to run off.

~The purpose of the church is to carry out the will of Christ in the world to proclaim and apply His gospel.

~Ministry should seek to gain total member involvement.

~The church must find a balance between evangelism and edification in all its ministry programs.

Flying Above The Storm Author Unknown

Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks?
The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come.
When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it high above the storm.
While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring high above it, gliding with ease.
The eagle does not escape the storm; it just simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm into its world.
When the storms of life come upon us -- and all of us will experience them -- we can rise above them by setting our minds and faith toward God!!!
The storms do not have to overcome us.
We can allow God to lift us above them. God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that brings sickness, pain, tragedy, failure and disappointments in our lives, and make something good come from it. We can soar above the storm.
Remember, it is not the burdens of life which weigh us down, but it is how we handle them that counts.
In Isaiah 40:31 (KJV) it reads: "But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

Burning Up? Tips To Cool Down Your Body

To handle this heat onslaught and ensure your body is as cool as it can possibly be, it is suggested that you follow the easy measures found below:

1. Eat light, small, frequent meals. Start the morning with a sweet, juicy fruit at breakfast - peaches, plums, melons and pears. Eat whole or extract their juice, store in the refrigerator and sip often throughout the day.

2. Include salads in your diet. Consuming leafy lettuce and summer greens, corn on cob and cucumbers, in salads are delicious ways to stay cool.

3. If you get burnt (sun stroke or heat stroke), seek relief by sipping on green tea or take a spoon of onion juice.

4. To cool the body through sweating, add small amounts of hot spices to food while cooking. Hot peppers and black pepper are great spices to make it really hot for you and then to cool you down.

5. Hydrate your body. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. Drink fluids even if you are not thirsty. Once you have the feeling of being thirsty means you are already dehydrated.

6. Wear loose, full-sleeved cotton clothes to protect the body from the sun and to aid evaporation of sweat. Use a hat to protect your head from the sun when you go out.

7. Stay indoors. Restrict outdoor activities to early mornings before 10:30 a.m. or late evenings after 5:30 p.m.
As the mercury rises, the last thing on one's mind is food - but if you eat smart, small & light meals and accompany it with plenty of fluids you will be a cool winner.

Just for Laughs

Little Andy Was At His First Day of School

Mrs. Whyte, his teacher advises the class that each school day starts with the "Pledge of Allegiance"*** and instructs them to put their right hand over their heart and repeat after her.

As Mrs. Whyte starts the recitation she looks around the room, 'I pledge allegiance to the flag...... ', when her eyes are drawn to Andy who has his hand over the right cheek of his bottom.

'Andy, I cannot continue till you put your hand over your heart,' she demands. Andy looks up and replies, 'It is over my heart.'

After several more attempts to get Andy to put his hand over his heart, Mrs Whyte enquires, 'Why do you think that is your heart, Andy?'

'Well Miss,' answers Andy, 'because every time my Grandma comes to visit she pats me there and says, "Bless your little heart," and my Grandma never lies.'

Somebody’s Watching You!!

Does age make a difference? Apparently not, it is shown in a member who is always there when the church doors are open, supportive of every ministry and program, will to follow the pastor when he goes out to preach and usually remembers a birthday with a card. If every member had her dedication, what a church we would have.

The Church-At-Large

At-large is a designation for members of a governing body who are elected or appointed to represent the whole membership of the body. Your church-at-large members were appointed to hear and express your concerns before the Board of Christian Education (BOCE) and Business Meetings. The BOCE, which has representation from leadership of each ministry and Pastor Saulsberry, desires every member to have an opportunity to ‘study’ the word of God and become followers of Christ. Business Meetings are for discussion of church business matters. If you are not involved with a ministry in which to express your concerns or if you are unable to attend business meetings, we are here to assist you. We will hear you and voice your concern at the appropriate meeting. Our primary concern is you having available the ways and means for your
Christian Education; but if other matters are pressing you, that is important to us also, we are here for you to help you gain understanding and knowledge. Feel free to contact us. God Bless You.
