Mission

The Chronic Disease Prevention Council (CDPC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 1997, it serves as a coordinating body to address chronic disease prevention in the state of New Mexico.

The mission of the CDPC is to reduce common risk factors for the chronic diseases* of arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, lung disease, and osteoporosis by:

  • Advocating for prevention policies and programs;
  • Facilitating collaboration among agencies and organizations working to prevent and/or manage chronic disease;
  • Supporting initiatives to understand, identify, and address social determinants that impact chronic disease.

Position

The CDPC is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a member of its Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is comprised of professionals from various CDPC partner organizations and is essential for guiding its strategic direction. As a member of this committee, the individual will have the following duties:

  • Adopting and supporting the CDPC’s mission
  • Providing strategic guidance, vision, and oversight for the CDPC
  • Working side by side with the Executive Director to further the organization’s mission and executing its strategic plan
  • Tracking the progress of current CDPC work and contracts
  • Helping to develop and implement the New Mexico Shared Strategic Plan for Chronic Disease, of which a new version was completed this last fiscal year.

  • Providing leadership by considering how their own organization or those in their network align with current CDPC work
  • Ensuring the continued existence and sustainability of the CDPC through informing the Executive Director of grant or fundraising opportunities
  • Attending and participating monthly meetings to discuss and guide the direction of CDPC work

Qualifications

This position is a great opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the CDPC’s mission and who has a track record of serving as a Steering Committee member in other organizations. This individual will have achieved leadership stature in business, health, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. Their accomplishments will allow them to work and interact well with other members of the Steering Committee.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, health, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
  • A commitment to and understanding of the CDPC’s beneficiaries, preferable based on experience
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives and health of those in New Mexico

Serving on the CDPC’s Steering Committee is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Steering Committee Member duties.
