IEW 2018

PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO & ART COMPETITION GUIDELINES

The Inter-Emirates Photographic Competition is open to amateur photographers, videographers and artists who are members of any UAE chapters of the ENHG.

Participants are invited to enter a maximum of two photographs OR one 2 to 5 minute video OR one piece of artworkwhich have been taken in or inspired by either the UAE or Oman, on natural history subjects. The categories are as follows:

  1. Architecture, Archaeology, Culture & Heritage
  2. Flora and Fauna in the wild
  3. People
  4. Landscapes (including sea, sky, city etc)
  5. Budding photographers (aged 16 years and under)

Photographs and drawings should be a minimum size of 5 inches x 7 inches (125mm x 180mm) and should be mounted (on cardboard, not framed) so that the image can be affixed with blu-tack [AW1]to a display board.

The competition will be judged by everyone present. Each individual attending IEW 2018 will be given a voting form to vote for a winner in each of the 5 categories, in addition to the entry judged most popular (people’s choice). Members are invited to complete their voting form before or during dinner. The completed forms will be collected from tables. [AW2]The winners will be announced during the evening and then the prizes will be presented.

If the The photographers/artistsare unable to attend must be present at the function, they should ensure that they nominate a representative who will be in attendance.

Photo and artwork entries mustay be submitted digitally to at anytimebefore Wednesday 21 February 2018 AND as a hard copy to the IEW2018organisers any time from Thursday 22rdFebruary until 5 p.m. on Friday 23thFebruary . They can be reclaimed at the end of the event. All photo and Video entries are to be sent electronically to through wetransfer at the latest by Feb 21st, 2018.

All submitted photographs, videos or artwork may be used by ENHG on social media platforms, websites, and ENHG publications. All work will be credited to the photographer/artist. By submitting an entry photographers and artists are consenting to their images and videos being used and shared by ENHG. A high resolution digital version of the submitted photos/artwork will be requested from entrants.

ENHG PHOTO / ARTWORK AGREEMENT

THIS AGREEMENT, made (Date):______by and between the Emirates Natural History Group and its affiliates and licensees (collectively, “ENHG”) and

(Name): ______(“Licensor”).

WHEREAS, Licensor has photographs / videos / artwork submitted for the IEW competition (“Artwork”).

WHEREAS, ENHG requests the right to use the Artwork for the purposes of advertising and/or trade in any and all media, throughout the world, without restriction as to frequency or duration of usage. Such uses shall include, but are not limited to illustrations, bulletins, exhibitions, videotapes, reprints, reproductions, publications, advertisements, and any promotional or educational materials in any medium now known or hereafter developed, including the Internet (the “Purpose”), and Licensor desires to grant ENHG rights to use the Artwork for the Purpose.

NOW, THEREFORE, for good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, ENHG and Licensor hereby agree as follows:

  1. Licensor grants to ENHG a non-exclusive right to use the Artwork for the Purpose without further authorization from or remuneration to Licensor. As part of this license, ENHG has the right to duplicate the Artwork, as needed, and may alter, retouch, crop or use in composite form the Artwork in any way.
  2. Licensor hereby represents and warrants that: (i) Licensor has the right to enter into this agreement and to grant the rights granted hereunder; (ii) the Artwork s are original; (iii) Licensor has secured permission from all individuals who are depicted in the Artwork to grant to ENHG the right to use such individuals’ images as contained in the Artwork for the Purpose; (iv) Licensee has secured permission from the photographer(s) to allow ENHG to use the Artwork for the Purpose; and (v) the use by ENHG of the Artwork will not violate the rights of any third party, including any individual depicted in the Artwork. Licensor agrees to defend, indemnify and hold harmless ENHG and its agents, officers, employees and directors from and against any and all losses, claims, damages, expenses or liabilities of any kind, including attorney’s fees, arising out of or resulting from the Artwork of a claimed breach by Licensor of any of its agreements, representations or warranties hereunder.
  3. I hereby warrant and represent that I am at least 18 years of age* and have the full right to contract in my own name with respect to the matters stated above.
