ANNUAL EVALUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to maintain compliance with emergency department standards, the following requirements must be met by every staff member by the end of each calendar year. Annual requirements are due by Dec. 17th of each calendar year except for continuing education which is due by Dec. 1st.

·  License – card verification

·  BLS for the Healthcare Provider (licensed & care partners)– card verification (renewal every 2 years)

·  Heartsaver (minimum) for medical receptionists – card verification (renewal every 2 years)

·  ACLS – (Licensed) card verification (renewal every 2 years)

·  PALS – (Licensed) card verification (renewal every 2 years)

·  TNCC – (RN only) – renewal every 4 years

·  BTLS, PHTLS, or ITLS – (Paramedic) – card verification (renewal every 4 years)

·  Hands On Clinical Safety (formerly “Safety Fair”) – Available to ED staff for N-95 fit testing, TB skin testing, and (restraint training on even years)

·  EKG Training – Initial only

·  Smooth Moves Training – Initial only

·  AIDET Training – Initial only

·  HED Training – Initial only

·  Completion of Triage Class – RN only- Initial

·  TB Skin Test – every 6months

·  ED Competency – Annual—.Monthly sessions available. All requirements must be met.

·  Online training – The Learning Exchange & Vandysafe – Annual training

·  Decon Training – Initial 8 hour class, then brief annual refresher class

·  Handle With Care (Verbal & Physical course - Initial) – then brief annual refresher.

·  Safety Course – Annual sessions in May only.

·  N 95 Mask Fitting – Annual

·  POCT (glucose testing only) Annual

·  Successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia test – Initial then annual competency in Learning Exchange.

·  Staff Meetings – Must attend 4 per year (prn status must attend 2 per year) *live remote viewing available! You can also view up to 10 days after the event to receive attendance credit! Link is sent to you via email. Occurs 2nd Tuesday of every month at 2pm.

·  Unit Board – Must attend 2 per year (prn status must attend 1 per year). Occurs last Tuesday of every month alternating between 7pm and 7am.

·  Continuing education hours – (due by December 1st of each calendar year)

Licensed Staff – 8 hours of stroke, 4 hours of cardiac (2 must be CHF), 2 trauma, 2 pediatric

Non Licensed Staff – 2 hours of trauma, 1 hour stroke, 1 hour cardiac

Medical Receptionists – None required

·  Monthly policy updates—MyVUMC (*Will come in an email or you can print on demand from the policy/procedures webpage under “educational summaries”.) **Read, print/sign form for each month and submit both VUMC and ED summaries.
