ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Greenwich is a special community, and while most of us feel lucky to live here, few of us realise that it takes a lot of effort by a dedicated few to keep it this way, and to protect our local environment from threats that arise from time to time. Last year we drew some new and younger faces on our committee to strengthen the Association and help us achieve more in the years ahead. We want to carry this further with more of the next generation of residents taking over so that the line at the bottom of this newsletter shall some day say 108 years, not 58 years. You all care enough to contribute to the GCA so come along to our AGM and get involved.

CURRENT ONGOING MATTERS

Regular activities are the monitoring of development applications for oversize and over development proposals. Keeping contact with Councillors and Council on Council activities, particular projects and services that effect Greenwich resident, including those that effect the children and youth aged residents. Liaison with Shell on activities that are, or may, effect the Greenwich residents. An immediate project is examining the Council's development approval procedures from the residents side to see if it can be improved and more accessible and transparent

WEB PAGE

With the help of Laurie Edwards and others, GCA maintains a Web Page to keep you up-to-date with community news, contact numbers and so on. We have expanded it this year, but would wish to do so even further. Have a look at it on www.greenwich.org.au and tell us what else would you like to see included on the Web Page.

COMMUNITY DIRECTORY

One of the services provided by GCA is the community information directory. This can be viewed on www.greenwich.org.au (a copy is also retained at the Greenwich Library). The Directory lists community information and contacts for the various associations/clubs within Greenwich (sporting, scouts, pre/schools, churches etc). With the start of 2002 and the possible change-over of office bearers could the secretary (or public officer) of all community, sporting, general clubs please visit the GCA website and check that details of your association/club are current for the 2002. Please advise Christine Kirkwood 9438 2206 of any changes to be made or any additional information you feel should be displayed about your Club. If you are unable to access the webpage, please telephone Christine with details.

New residents (welcome) please visit the site - you will find it most helpful and might like to become a member of one of the many groups in Greenwich.

GREENWICH RESIDENTS AGAINST MOBILE PHONE ANTENNAE -

Following attempts by Optus to install mobile phones antenna on their building, and statement by Optus that they intend to install antenna elsewhere in Greenwich, a group of residents and their neighbours have formed GRAMPA to monitor these proposals, that many of the community believe represent as yet unquantified risk and of still unproven safety. If you do hear of proposals for antenna in Greenwich, please contact Marshall Rubinstein, 9439 3152

SANTA AT GREENWICH

There is nothing like the gleaming, happy faces of Greenwich children when Santa comes into the wharf at 8.00 am on Christmas Day.

$100 dollars was donated to the Sydney City Mission Scheme from the refreshments purchased during Santa's visit. Thank you for your support and to all Santa's helpers. Looking forward to seeing you all next year

GREENWICH SPORT CLUB

The annual registration for the soccer teams will be on Thursday, 21st Feb, from 6 pm to 8 pm and on Saturday, 23rd Feb from 8.30 am to 10.00 am. Both at Greenwich Uniting Church, 9 Carlotta St., Greenwich - Enquires, Bob Campbell 9438 5999

GREENWICH CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT

On December 10th at Leemon Reserve, a goodly crowd of Greenwichians kicked off the Christmas season on a balmy summer's evening, with fine food, good cheer, and carol singing led by the Greenwich Carollers. The children definitely stole the show with their

lively renditions of "Rudolf" and "Jingle Bells"! The evening raised $750 for the Youth Mental Health Fund. Many thanks for the host of people involved in making the evening such a success: Carollers, Musicians, Sausage Sizzlers, MCs and "behind-the sceners".

See you in December 2002..
