Volunteer Role Description

Role Title: / Volunteer Restorative Facilitator
Location: / Specified areas throughout Kent
Time Requirement: / A minimum of 4 hours per calendar month will be required to maintain the skill levels required
Purpose: / To provide restorative facilitation atKent Police out-of-court clinic meetings and post conviction conferencing forthe Kent Criminal Justice Board.
Supervision : / Supervision will be provided by the Project Salus Restorative Justice Service Co-ordinator.
Key Activities: / You will be responsible for the preparation and restorative facilitation of the delivery of out-of-court sanctions to young people for Kent Police. You will be expected to make telephone contact, and where necessary, personal visits to victims and offenders who are scheduled to receive police out-of-court sanctions to prepare and risk assess participants. You will be present to meet victims and offenders at the venues (usually police stations) and facilitate their meeting to discuss the offence, its affects and agree outcomes. You will also be expected to record and report on each of the meetings.

It is a requirement to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Level 2 Kent Police Staff Vetting to complete checks.
Experience: /
  • Experience of restorative justice/mediation is desirable but not essential, as a full training and support will be provided.
  • Experience of problem solving would be beneficial.
  • Working with the police, victims and offenders would be advantageous.

Support: /
  • Initial training will be provided by some of the country’s leading restorative practitioners. This training will enable successful candidates to register as an Associated Practitioner with the Restorative Justice Council (RJC).
  • Continuing professional development (CPD) will be provided.
  • Complimentary training opportunities will be encouraged.
  • Access to experienced staff and volunteers working in this and other similar fields.
  • A 360 approach is taken to regular supervisory sessions.

Expenses: / Travel and personal expenses will be paid.
