Course Description:This course focuses on relationships among people, places, and environments that result in geographic patterns on the earth. Students will use geographic methods to compare and analyze landforms, climates, and natural resources, as well as cultural, political, economic, and religious characteristics of the world regions.

Course Goal:The goal of this course is to help students understand the nature of the world,

its environment and the events that take place in it.

-Pens (preferably blue or black) or pencils

-Binder, Notebook, etc. (of your choosing)

Students are EXPECTED to come to class prepared each day

Grades/ Assessment:Daily grades will be taken everyday. Daily grades may consist of participation points, classwork, group work and other activities. Major grades will come from tests and projects. Homework grades will fall under daily grades and will be given, as deemed necessary, by the teacher. Students are EXPECTEDto complete all work, whether in or outside of class, and to manage their time in such a way as to meet all due dates. Extra Creditopportunities may be given at the teacher’s discretion. Points will be deducted for each day assignments are late (unless under extreme circumstances).

Class Average Breakdown:

-Tests: 50%

-Daily Grades: 25%

-9 week exams: 25%

Grading Scale:The grading scale used is taken from our local board policy. The scale is as follows:

Specific Classroom Rules:

1. Follow directions when given (quickly and quietly) 4. Do not get out of your seat without permission

2. Be in your seat when the bell rings 5. Turn in all assignments/make-up work on time

3. Bring all materials to class and be prepared to learn

Other DOs and DONTs:

-Please DO NOT throw trash on the floor. Keep the room as clean as possible.

-Students are EXPECTED to be on time for class. Excessive tardies will result in consequences.

-RESPECT the authority of the teacher and the RIGHTS of all students to learn.

-Unless there is an open discussion taking place students SHOULD RAISE their hand and wait to be acknowledged by the teacher.

-Cell phones are to be PUT AWAY at all times.

-Cheating IS NOT tolerated.

Failure to follow classroom rules and procedures will result in consequences.

Consequences:

  1. Verbal/non-verbal warning
  2. Writing assignment/student conference
  3. Detention (1 day)/parent contact
  4. Detention (2 days)/ parent conference
  5. Office referral

*This will be the primary order for consequences unless severe misbehavior occurs (fighting, threating others, etc.).

Absences/ Makeup Work:I understand that absences will occur, but your success in this class is dependent on your attendance. Students will have 5 days to complete makeup work. It is the RESPONSIBILITYof the STUDENT to consult with the teacher about any work that was missed.

Bathroom Passes: Students will be administered 4 bathroom passes per 9 weeks, for a total of 8bathroom passes a semester. When students use a bathroom pass they will have to initial and place the date beside their name. Once all bathroom passes have been exhausted students will still have the opportunity to go to the bathroom, but they will have to take a detention. I highly encourage students to go in between class changes if possible.

Teacher Availability:For any students who would like extra help I am willing to meet before or after school (preferably on Tuesdays and Thursdays). If those days do not work for you we can make different arrangements. Email is the best way for both students and parents to contact me; my email is .
