It is recommended that you turn the application in as early as possible.

An application will not be considered if it is late or incomplete.

The SOCIÉTÉ HONORAIRE DE FRANÇAIS (SHF) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in French and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF). The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the French language and to promote a continuing interest in Francophone studies.

Please answer the following questions to determine your eligibility for the SOCIÉTÉ HONORAIRE DE FRANÇAIS:

I have successfully completed French II, and am enrolled in a French class for the next school year.
I am/was enrolled in a French course this school year.
I have a minimum 90% cumulative average of all French courses taken from 9th grade to the present.
I have an 80% cumulative average of all high school courses.
I have a behavioral record free from suspension, instances of academic dishonesty (i.e. plagiarism), and/or a pattern of inappropriate behavior.

If you answered NO to any question but would like to explain your situation and still be considered, please do so in writing and attach to this application.

Expectations of SOCIÉTÉ HONORAIRE DE FRANÇAIS members are drawn from the constitution and bylaws of the national SOCIÉTÉ HONORAIRE DE FRANÇAIS. In summary, they are:

Ø  Enrollment and completion of the French class for which you qualify

Ø  Attendance at the induction ceremony in April

Ø  Maintenance of a 90% cumulative average in French classes

Ø  Maintenance of an 80% cumulative semester average in all classes

Ø  Participation in Société Honoraire de Français meetings and activities

Ø  Attendance at next year’s induction ceremony of new members

Ø  Participation in the National French Examination when offered

Ø  Maintenance of a behavioral record free from suspensions, academic dishonesty, and/or a pattern of inappropriate behavior

Ø  Meet all deadlines and pay the required one time fee (currently $3.00)

Ø  Fulfillment of the yearly service and language requirements.

Failure to meet these expectations will result in a written warning, a probation period, or removal from the SOCIÉTÉ HONORAIRE DE FRANÇAIS.
