A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Finis Durrett.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Finis Durrett, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, Finis Durrett was born on March 2, 1919, a native of Green County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 21, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Finis Durrett was the loving son of the late James Durrett and Mary Alice Akin Durrett, and he also was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Ora, Ores, Hamilton, C. D., Woodrow, Mary Liza and Earl Durrett; he was the devoted husband of the late Hazel Wallace Durrett; he was the loving father of a son and daughter-in-law, Finis Wayne and Frances Durrett of Greensburg; and he was the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, Barry Wayne Durrett and his wife Stephanie of Louisville, and Stephen Todd Durrett and his wife Angie of Greensburg, two step-grandchildren, Darlene Henderson and her husband Jack of Texas and Lana Bush and her husband Danny of Greensburg, and two great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and he also leaves behind a loving brother, Alfonso Durrett of Hodgenville, and a longtime friend and assistant, Beverly Ingram of Greensburg; and
WHEREAS, Finis Durrett was an esteemed member of the Green County community, where he was a member of Summersville Baptist Church; he was an outstanding citizen and a very successful businessman and was founder and owner of Durrett Realty; he was a former owner of burley tobacco warehouses in Greensburg and Horse Cave; he had been involved in various other businesses, and he also owned several thousand acres of land in Green and Hart counties; and
WHEREAS, Finis Durrett was a public servant, serving two terms as Green County Judge, and being the last Democrat to serve consecutive terms in the judge-executive's office; and when this honorable body reflects upon the memory of Finis Durrett, we remember him not only for his many accomplishments and the friendships he made and sustained through the years, but also his compassion for and understanding of the common man, which he demonstrated daily throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Finis Durrett has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Finis Durrett, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Finis Durrett.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Finis Wayne Durrett, P. O. Box 362, Greensburg, Kentucky 42743.
