CHIEF OPERATOR

Shoshone Municipal Pipeline is seeking applicants for a Chief Water Treatment Plant Operator to perform administrative, supervisory and operations work involving planning, organizing and directing the daily operation of a 16.5 MGD surface water treatment plant.

The work requires considerable technical knowledge and a thorough understanding of the Safe Drinking Water Act and the laboratory and testing procedures required to meet compliance. Must be proficient in SCADA,Excel and Word software programs. The applicant should possess excellentwritten and verbal communication skills. Contact SMP for a complete list of job duties.

The job requires an associates degree in Water Quality Technology or a directly related field and 4 years of progressively responsible experience in the operations and maintenance of a surface water treatment plant, with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory or lead worker experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

This job requires a State of Wyoming Level IV Water Treatment and a Level I Distribution licenseor the ability to obtain them within6 months, Wyoming driver’s license with a good driving history, and the ability to lift 70 lbs. This job requires overtime, callback, and/or weekend work as needed. The starting wage for this position is $34.61 - $35.99 per hour DOE. This is a drug free/tobacco free work place.   • reports directly to the Manager
  • supervises the water treatment plant and the plant personnel in both operational and maintenance aspects
  • plans and prepares work schedules and assignments for plant personnel
  • helps prepare and administer the budget
  • works with the EPA and Wyoming DEQ to maintain compliance
  • responsible for laboratory sampling and testing, both in-house and outside
  • maintains plant operational records, submits reports required by primacy agencies
  • maintains plant safety records and enforces safety standards and regulations
  • maintains inventory of chemicals and supplies
  • develop procedures and protocols for the safe operation of the water treatment plant
  • ability to react to changing water quality conditions and make appropriate chemical dosage adjustments
  • ability to maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot plant equipment and instrumentation
  • monitor and evaluate the operation of the pipeline transmission system
  • conduct tours of the water treatment facility
  • compile data to assist the Manager in preparing the annual operating budget and to estimate future needs
  • review operating expenditures and make corrections or provide detailed recommendations
  • review plans and specifications and make recommendations for process improvements or plant expansions
  • follows up on progress of work and oversees the completion of assigned projects
  • responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance at the water treatment plant
  • provides response to urgent and emergency conditions at the water treatment plant
  • supervises the operations of the pipeline when the Chief Pipeline Operator is not available
  • writes policies and procedures related to plant and laboratory operations
  • ability to manage employees and maintain good public relations
  • ability to read and interpret blueprints drawings and plans
  • requires moderate to heavy physical effort in connection with the operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities
  • must be able to access all areas of the water treatment plant and the raw and treated water pipelines
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
  • prepare performance evaluations on water plant operators
  • may be assigned responsibility for operation and maintenance of the raw and treated water pipeline systems
  • evaluates work methods, procedures, staff and equipment and recommends improvements, procedures and methods to improve efficiency and processes
  • plans schedules and implements required routine, preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs
  • plans schedules and implements capital improvement projects at the water treatment plant
  • responsible for in-house laboratory activities and sends out a variety of samples for laboratory tests to comply with appropriate regulatory requirements and to ensure water quality
  • requisitions and maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies necessary to perform related work assigned
  • this is a working supervisory position. Incumbents are expected to perform the more difficult plant and facility operations and maintenance assignments with limited guidance or supervision and to provide work direction to other staff
  • ensures the efficiency and continuous operations of the facilities
